Many months ago, I watched the first 2 seasons of Cobra Kai and the theme music was always ‘Airbourne - Back in the Game’.
Now, the theme music has changed (due to the recent agent changes?). I want the old song back so I downloaded the mp3 for Back in the Game and renamed it to theme.mp3 and placed it in the root of the season folder:
…and did the Plex shuffle but it’s still playing the new theme and not the theme.mp3 I put in that folder.
How do I get Plex to recognize my custom theme song? (I even refreshed the metadata and no dice.)
What do the permissions look like on that .mp3 file? Make sure it matches the episode files.
I think you should only have to do a Refresh Metadata on the show to get it to pick up the theme file.
I thought the same and verified the theme.mp3 file has the same permissions applied to it as everything else in that folder.

I verified my theme.mp3 file is 30 seconds, 44K, 128K (which I believe only applies to user submitted stuff to Plex) but I wanted to be on the safe side and rule that out as the culprit. Local media assets is checked and at the top of the agents list.
Have you verified your file is indeed using the mp3 codec? Simply renaming e.g. an aac file won’t do any good.
I take it your tv show library is pointed exactly to the folder /mnt/md0/TV Shows and not one folder level higher or deeper?
Side note: you don’t need to restrict the play length or bitrate of your custom theme songs. I am using the full length of the title songs in my library, at a bit rate of 320 kbps and they all do work.
Sample rate seems to also not be critical.
And don’t try any other channel layout than stereo. Many devices out there are totally “surprised” when they encounter mono or multi-channel files.

I didn’t think the length of the track would matter but I was just grasping at straws trying to get this working. On paper…seems simple enough but no go.
… just grasping at more straws… nothing seems to work to get Plex to see the theme.mp3 file in that folder.
The last screenshot shows definitely a wrong configuration.
But that only matters if your library is still on the old agent.
My library is using the new agent and yep, the 2nd screenshot is wrong but that was part of my hail marry/kitchen sink phase.
I think I tried everything I can with the agent configuration but no change.
What is your currently used agent?Plex XML info of any episode of that show.

It was not but after checking that box, it’s fixed now! Thank you!!!
The funny thing is, I was looking at that last night…
… and I didn’t see anything in there about theme music so thought it only applied to what it states… “posters and artwork”. Maybe update the verbiage in there to also state “…and custom theme music.”
BUT, the big box DOES say “Use local assets”… I guess local means ALL local stuff it can possibly find in there and not just posters and artwork. hahah
No biggie though. Thanks again!
