Customize Sorting Order // Mod: order of folders linked to library and scan sequence

Something I would like to see in a future update is have the ability to sort the scanning order of a library. For instance, I have eight directories for a single library that is spread across several hard drives. I would like to take the one that I just added and movie it to the top of the listing for Plex to scan that particular folder first.

Thoughts?

maybe you can elaborate what you intend to achieve by that?

With pleasure lol. So I would say that when I get a new movie into my library it automatically falls into my “Unsorted” folder. However because I recently had to change where the folder is to a different drive, I had to remove the directory and re-add it (standard I know). But what I’m noticing is that it’s falling at the bottom of the list now and one of the last things scanned. I would want it to move right to the top again so that Plex can find and add the media right off the bat.

Does that explanation make sense?

just wondering how many movies you have in those folders that it takes an amount of time you feel the need to reduce. sure it takes a moment – but so far I haven’t perceived the scanning as the bottleneck (especially when waiting for the matching and metadata downloading to complete).
but that’s just me

My “Movie” Library consists of roughly 4+ TB of content span across three separate NAS drives. What I ended up doing was making a separate Movie and TV Library called “Unsorted” and have all my new content dropped in there until I properly organize it. Not ideal, but it’s something in the meantime.

My library is 4 times the size of that and it takes a long time, on average 8 mins, to add a new movie or TV show/episode to Plex. I’d really like to adjust it so my most recently added folder location would scan first instead of last. I suppose I could remove all the locations and then add them back in reverse order, it’s just a hassle to do every time I add a new HDD.

I may be missing something here… If you select a sort grouping a second time it reverses the sort order. What was last is now first.

Sorry, I should have specified. I’m referencing when you click on “Edit” next to a library (three dots) then click on “Add Folders” in the menu that pops up. It will list all the physical/network folders you’ve added for media. That’s what I’m talking about in regards to scan order. Whenever I add a physical location to scan it gets added to the bottom, meaning it’s the last thing to be scanned during a scan. I would like to reverse that so it’s put on top and scanned first.

Yes! That’s my gripe right now. I’m really hoping that they will add this feature later. But in the meantime, I made a separate library and it works just fine, then after I while I just add it back to the main library.
