When deleting a folder can we get this to show up in Alphabetical order?

Hi there. I currently have over 1000+ of just movies alone. I add them 1 by 1 in their own folder and when I add them from Manage Library, they always show the folders in Alphabetical order (when I add the folders).

What I want to suggest is…sometimes, I have to delete the folder, in order to get the update movie file to show up in PLEX correctly. It’s a last resort, but one I found necessary sometimes. When this happens, I reverse the procedure, however, one of the problems is that in order to find the folder, it is in the order when added. That could be in the front, back or in the middle (not very elegant).

My request is when trying to find that folder, can that be in alphabetical order as well? This would help me find it much quicker and take care of what I need to do. I’m not sure if this was brought up before, but I hope this can be done. Thank you in advance and hope to see it possibly implemented soon.

You are doing it wrong. This will stop working at some point.
Don’t add each movie separately to your Plex library. Only add the top level folder, which contains all the individual subfolders of all the movies.

How is that wrong? I have movies that have Director’s Cut and what-not and if I try to do it with just one folder path, it scans my library for hours on end each time I add a movie.

When adding, it shows everything in alphabetical order, I’m sure it can’t be that hard to reverse the order. I’m not being lazy. I have tried it your way and my recent way and I get less problems with my organization.

If it sees everything in 1-single swoop, then i wouldn’t have a problem with it, but it scans certain individual files constantly too, but only 2-3 of them. If you can explicitly teach me how to do it right, than I am all ears.

What you could do is create your “movies” library and add a couple of subfolders. Something like this:

/media/movies-action
/media/movies-drama
/media/movies-horror
/media/movies-sci fi

or
you could add them by alphabetic folders. Like this:

/media/a-f/
/meda/g-l/
/media/m-r/
/media/s-w/
/media/x-z/
/media/0-9/
/media/symbols/

This should make the scanning process a bit faster.
And you could add the edition tag for different versions. https://support.plex.tv/articles/multiple-editions/

Hope this helps!

Can you show a screenshot of your current folder setup for the Plex library in question? Edit the library in Plex and show the “Add folders” tab.
