Cyrillic text replaced by "?"

Hey Guy’s

in 2016, there was a problem with cyrillic texts in movies, my problem is in the music-library.

My installation runs on ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS (Server).
In addition to plexmediaserver, a nextcloud is hosted on this server too. Don’t know if this could be a problem, but I don’t think so - has nothing to do with character set.

Is this known?

If you need something, let me know.

Does this happen in all different Plex client types?
Can you compare with a Plex server running on a different operating system?

What kind of meta tags are used in these files?
(if it’s a mp3 file, use ID3V2.3 with UTF-16 text encoding)

This happens on every tested client: Ps4, Android Smartphone (Samsung, Xiaomi), WebClient, Kodi-Plex-Plugin…

Didn’t use any metatags, every media was newly scratched. Where can I change this, didn’t found any menue-point.

If your files are missing embeded meta tags, you are relying on the operating system and the numerous different file systems to handle unicode correctly. Which in your case doesn’t appear to work.

So the apparent fix would be to start embedding meta data into your files. If your file names follow all the same structure, you can semi-automatically parse the file names and generate meta tags from them. (using a 3rd-party tool, not Plex – e.g. Kid3 or similar tools )

the problem was solved by itselfe. I did the assignment again manually and that seems to work.

thx for your time
