Daniel Tiger seems to have highest recording priority and I cannot change it

Plex DVR seems to think Daniel Tiger has a higher priority to everything else. Here is a gif demoing the issue.
Note, that on the Recording Priority screen that Daniel Tiger is at the bottom

Here are the Plex logs as well.

Plex Media (5.4 MB)

From the recording priority on the right side Daniel’s Tiger appears to be higher than the other series recordings, you don’t even see them in the list. Move Daniel’s Tiger down. All you are doing selecting the Prefer This on Whiskey Cavalier is put it ahead of Seal Team, selecting Prefer This on Seal team then puts it ahead of Whiskey Cavalier. Drag Daniel’s Tiger down in the Priority on the right side of the screen.

Daniel Tiger is at the bottom. There is nothing below it. Whiskey Cavalier and Seal Team are the top two.

Can’t see where Seal Team and Whiskey Cavalier are above Daniel Tiger in the Recording Priority. Logs show that attempts to schedule Whiskey Cavalier and Seal Team conflicts with other shows which leads me to believe that Daniel Tiger is above both of the other shows in the Recording Priority list, not the Recording Schedule.

I have enough shows on DVR that the recording priority is scrollable.

Let me share another example of this.
Here is a gif demoing the issue.

And here are the plex logs

Let me demo another instance of recording priority being buggy. Here is a gif and some logs.

Plex Media (5.1 MB)

I can’t seem to replicate this issue on the latest beta (1.15.3.835) on one of my test machines (Windows 10), or on the latest Public release (1.15.2.793) on a different test machine (MacOS). On both machines and versions the Prefer This option moves the selected recording to the top of the Recording Priority list and reschedules the correct recordings. I tried to use the same shows you were using but the other shows aren’t on at the same time as Modern Family in my area.

I also tried this on my primary machine (Windows 10) running the current beta version to see if it is an issue with a lot of scheduled recordings and saw the same behavior of the recording selected with the prefer this option moved all the way to the top of my recording priority list, and rescheduled with the lowest priority show showing the conflict.

My last test was on one of my Shield TV’s that is setup with Live TV & DVR. The Shield is running versions 1.14.1.5490 which is the latest version showing in the Google Play Store for the Shield. On the Shield the same recording shown in my test above did switch but it took roughly 2-3 minutes after selecting the Prefer This for the switch to display in the Recording Schedule. The Recording Priority was updated immediately to reflect the new show at the top of the list but apparently the DVR Scheduler task took some time in rescheduling the recordings based on the switch in priority.

So in all of my tests the order was switched either immediately or within a few minutes.

First off, thank you for looking into the issue. Secondly, I’m on mobile so I’m going to be brief.

It’s been several hours since I made the gif and the issue still exists on my server.

Lastly, not being able to trust the recording priority means I either miss recording shows or spend a large amount of time making sure my real high priority shows don’t get skipped.

Is there any way you can ask folks at plex to fix the issue?

Can you provide some additional logs and information. First if you could restart the server and record the time it was restarted. Then wait five minutes and refresh the guide data by going to the DVR Settings and clicking the Refresh Guide link. Wait for the guide to finish refreshing. Wait five more minutes and take a screenshot showing the recording schedule with the conflicts and the time so we can review logs. Then go through the same steps you showed in the gif recording the time you select the prefer this on the first show, wait 3-5 minutes and take another screenshot. Select the next show recording the time and wait 3-5 minutes, then the last show and wait 3-5 minutes. Download the logs and submit them along with the screenshots taken. I can then review everything and pass it on to the Devs for their review.

I followed the steps you indicated and was able to reproduce the issue -

Hope this is enough to help you guys diagnose the issue. Please let me know if you need something else.

Thanks for sending in your logs. I see the successful 8:00 request to change the priority in your PMS logs, but I do not see the request from your attempt at 8:08. That explains why that attempt failed, since PMS never received the request. It looks like this may be an issue with the web app. Can you please get a web app log of the problem occurring? Instructions to collect the log are here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201611836-plex-web-app-logs/.

Hi emilybersin,

Thanks for your response. You don’t see an attempt at 08:08, as I did not hit Prefer this at 08:08. I simply took a gif to demo the current state. As seen in the gif, I did not hit Prefer this. So, this is unlikely to be an issue in the web app. Also, web app logs are disabled by default, so I cannot attach those.

Is there any update to this issue? I am surprised it’s this hard to file a bug.

I discovered something that might help fix the issue. This issue is more prevalent for shows when one adds them to the DVR more than once. When that happens the show added twice seems to get some super priority. I don’t know if deleting the DVR entry and re-adding it fixes the issue.
