Debug info constantly displayed on anything streamed from Plex on Apple TV

Server Version#: 1.19.3.2764-ef515a800
Player Version#: Apple TV version 2.17

Recently two things have changed when I try to stream home content via Plex:

  1. There is a text overlay, which looks like debug information, displayed across the entire screen while the media plays (photo available).

  2. Media with known good resolution (1080p) displays horribly degraded.

If I stream the same media via the Plex web interface, it streams normally.

So right now, I cannot watch anything through Plex via my Apple TV4. The quality is horrible and there is active debug code splayed across the screen. On a good note, captions still seem to work.

What would cause this and what is the fix? Plex is useless software for me at this point.

For #1, that’s the debug overlay for the enhanced player. You can turn it off here:
Settings -> (Debugging) Show Enhanced Video Player Debug Overlay

As for #2, check the Plex Dashboard (Settings -> Dashboard, Show Details) while playing back a problem item and see if it is transcoding to a lower quality. If so, the Plex Media Server debug logs may show why:

Thanks so much. Overlay issue solved. Digging into the quality issue now.
