Default All Clients to Max Internet Streaming

YES! what will it take to make this change? or make the default max when you install the app.

Plex is “working” on it, but they’re taking forever and a damn day. So don’t hold your breath.

Have no fear… Plex Arcade is here… /s

Great use of resources!

Interesting how they can make the arcade service but not make the pms stream in proper HD…

They’re unrelated teams, doing unrelated work. One doesn’t have impact on the other.

Talk about acting cretinous, some forum members need to think things threw before throwing stones. Arcade is not for me but it maybe for others

I can’t believe we are still discussing this 1.5 years later

Of course they are unrelated teams, no one thinks otherwise. It’s about resource allocation.
It seems like plex inc is spending more and more resources on unrelated (to the core product) fluff. Just look at this thread, its 1.5 years old and we don’t have a fix yet in this time we got a streaming service no one asked for and arcade (among other things). I am sure arcade is fine an all but i am a plex customer because i wanna stream my media, not because of the c movies plex offers or atari stuff.
And this is just one problem/thread with countless other. Repeated seeking does not work properly for years now, for example, don’t you think resources allocated to the core problems makes more sense for your customers?

I wonder if you guys at the company realise how incredibly frustrating it is to use plex at the moment?

I could suggest the same.

@Orko summarized it nicely. There are many issues with Plex that needs addressed and has needed addressed for a long time now.

Having separate teams working on Plex’s own streaming service, Plex Arcade, etc is just horrible resource allocation.

If I wanted to use someone else’s streaming service, I’d use Netflix, Prime Video, or Hulu. I don’t care about Plex’s content.

If I wanted to play Arcade games I’d use an emulator or an actual game streaming service.

Plex, Inc is severely out of touch.

As is mentioned in our blog post, Arcade is from Plex Labs, which means it’s a side project, done by a small group of people, with the vast majority of the work happening in their own time, it doesn’t affect resource allocation. :man_shrugging:

we’re all users of the product as well.

Is it really possible that this haven’t been changed yet? And how fico if easy would it be to change a single defaults parameter in each client.

As a lifetime plex pass user I am baffled by the lack of respect Plex, inc shows for its users!

Shouldn’t be difficult to make maximum quality the default option for the next release.

The point is that introduces different problems, so we’re working on something that will make the experience much smoother overall

I hope that whatever solution you come up with also gives me as a server owner better control on how my users can transcode. For example original quality as default, but if a transcode is needed never transcode higher resolution than 720p. My server is not very powerful.

At least for remote users, you should already be able to set the maximum remote quality, and cap it to 720p

But won’t that also block original quality if it exceeds the stupidly low limit of 4Mbit?

I have 500Mbit to serve my users, but just a potato CPU on my NAS. :joy:

I appreciate you guys working on it and you and elan being active here but you sure are taking your time

Well… Yes. That’s a bit of a tricky one in that case. Though you can just disable transcoding in general :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes::man_shrugging:
