Perfect thx
Can you confirm if the quality suggestions feature also works when initially direct played? I know in the past that when direct played initially, the adjust automatically feature will not work anymore. It only works when it starts from a transcode or something along those lines.
Yes, it works with Direct Play, Direct Stream, and Transcode. The limitations with the auto-adjust feature were part of the reason we undertook this work.
That’s nice. Hopefully, all my android clients get it though.
It will be available to all Android TV devices. Found the issue on our side, which was limiting it to about 50% of users.
Perfect! Is there an ETA for the deployment fix?
It’s all on our side, and just a switch to flip. Should happen in the next 24 hours, just need to force quit and reload the app.
For client app remote quality settings set to a lower bandwidth setting (not Maximum/Unlimited), will this specific setting revert back to Unlimited when the get the new feature update?
Yes, when the feature is enabled, it defaults to Unlimited.
Showed up on my Shield and FireTV devices yesterday evening. Thanks.
Does chromecast fall under AndroidTV or is that something separate?
Chromecast with Google TV does, but the “regular” Chromecasts, like the Chromecast Ultra, don’t.
@DaveBinM what’s supposed to be the latest version installed on the Firestick 4k max? I turned on a firestick client that not being used frequently but I’m not sure how often does it check for app updates because I still don’t see the quality suggestions feature in it.
You’re going to have to install the app on the Firestick manually because Amazon does not update their store like … ever.
My FireStick has 9.15, the current version available from Amazon, and the new settings are available.
If yours has not updated automatically, you can delete/re-install to obtain the latest version (force it instead of waiting on the auto update).

I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I’m having a slight issue with this feature on my Fire Stick 4k.
I have playback quality set to maximum (Home streaming and Remote streaming quality), but when I leave this feature enabled, here’s what happens with most shows or movies I play:
- a few seconds after the file starts playing, I get the prompt to upgrade quality.
- I hit it, quality visibly upgrades (I’m not used to seeing lower than original quality so it’s very noticeable)
- after this happens, pressing OK/Select on my remote no longer brings up the on-screen controls and I can also no longer skip forward or backward.
I usually forget to enable subtitles, and instead enable them after the file has started playing. With this situation, I have to exit the show/movie and Resume it to be able to bring up on-screen controls again, or to skip around.
I’ve disabled this feature for now, but wanted to provide some feedback. Not sure why files are starting in a lower quality when I have the streaming quality set to Maximum.
I also had issue with home streaming not actually streaming original even though it was set to that. Posted about it in this thread. only way I solved it was to turn off the feature and it went back to normal behavior of playing original quality. Never even prompted me to upgrade the connection either.
The feature only impacts remote streaming, so if you’re seeing it locally, it’s likely that your connection is on a different subnet, and PMS doesn’t know that’s local, or something similar.
@johnnyb1981 I’ve been trying, and I’m unable to replicate that behaviour with the OSD not appearing. If you could reproduce, and get the Android Logs, it would be much appreciated ![]()
Sorry, I wasn’t clear there. This is only remote streaming (I noobily just set everything as Maximum and didn’t think about which was which).
If you’re still interested in the logs, I’ll take a look at how to do that and watch for the next time it happens.
How come my other fire sticks have the feature already? Amazon does update their apps. Not sure what you mean?
