Default All Clients to Max Internet Streaming

Yeah but I have the same version:

@DaveBinM after flicking the switch on your end, do you plex apps get the update automatically even if it’s suppose to be the same exact build number?

Try restarting the FireStick or logout/login.

It requires the app to be force quit/restarted to pick up the change. Likely the app has just been sitting in the background.

Most definitely. Would really appreciate them. :plexheart:

I force stopped the app and re-launch it, same thing. I restarted the whole FireStick, same thing.

@DaveBinM any other ideas?

Not off the top of my head. Everyone on an Android TV device should have access to this feature now

Should I provide any logs to have this fixed or something?

How is this still not a thing???

What do you mean?

As detailed in the preceding posts, this IS a thing.

Android only. We have a way to go yet.

Edit - oh and don’t forget that legacy clients will never get this feature.

How is this still not a thing? Just change the default for the remote stream to “Orginal” and let the users adjust it down, google users supporting automatic is great but change the default.

I’ve just had two separate users start using my server with 4k LG TV and they hammer my server transcoding at 720. Got them to change it and works fine.

Improve that default, I can’t believe this hasn’t been sorted after so many years.

Hey @DaveBinM,

Thanks for all the info you’ve provided so far in this thread, great to hear you guys are actively working on ways to improve user experience for remote viewing. I have a few scenarios that hopefully haven’t been answered. We can assume the users have this new direct play setting enabled.

Scenario 1: Remote user watching on a 1080p TV plays a movie in which I have both a 4k HDR and 1080p versions.

Result 1: Plex detects the 1080p TV and plays the 1080p version, correct?

Scenario 2: Remote user watching on a 1080p TV plays a movie in which I have a 1080p (15Mbps), 720p (7Mbps), and SD (3Mbps) version. Let’s just assume they’re all CBR files and their Wi-Fi connection is 10Mbps.

Result 2: Will Plex default to direct playing the 720p version, or will it transcode the 1080p file?

Scenario 3: Remote user watching on a 4K HDR TV playing a movie in which I have a 4K HDR and 1080p version. They don’t have a high enough bandwidth to support the bitrate on the 4k file.

Result 3: Will plex direct play the 1080p file or transcode the 4k HDR file since they have a 4k HDR TV.

Ideally I’d like to never transcode anything and have multiple versions that Plex can play depending on the scenario.

“Optimized Versions?”

He already has actual multiple versions of the file. No need for optimized versions.

It’s coming. They’ve been testing the waters on Android TV setups. So it’s only a matter of time it spreads to other platforms. In the context of “set to maximum” it will start off that way, and will prompt the user to downgrade if it’s not possible due to buffering.

I think the first post in this thread was back in Aug 2019 ?
