Currently there is a global option for automatic selection of language and subtitles. I would like this to be made per-series or per-library instead.
I have two TV libraries, “TV” and “Anime”. TV is almost entirely English language, often with subtitles available. Many files don’t mark their single audio track with a language, so Plex sees them as ‘Unknown’. As I have “Show with foreign audio” as the subtitle mode, subtitles for these files are turned on as ‘Unknown’ is not ‘English’. I have to manually go through and turn the subtitles off. However, if I turn the subtitle mode to ‘Manually select’ then I have to go through every episode in the ‘Anime’ library turning the subtitles on.
I suggest making the option at Global, Library and Series levels. Library overrides Global, and Series overrides Library and Global. The current behaviour is unchanged. I set my global options to ‘Manually select’ for subtitle mode and my preferred audio to English. On the ‘Anime’ library, I set the options to say preferred audio is Japanese, subtitles are ‘Always enabled’ in English.
I can also see the possibility of wanting to do this on a series level. For example, for the new series “Deutschland 83”, I would want to turn on automatic subtitles with audio in German.
