I would like to see this not really based on a library or section, but rather on the logged in user's preference (and users who are allowed to view my shared content would have their own settings). Ā I watch a ton of anime, and I prefer to watch it in Japanese with subtitles rather than English, while other friends like to do the opposite (watch it in English without subtitles). Ā Not a huge deal for me to turn them on when I want to watch something and just keep it in English, but it would be cool for the future! Ā :)

When I tested with my brother all the my subtitle settings were not carried over for him..
Well now that we have individual users perhaps it would make more sense to put the default language selection on the individual user instead of the section?
I really need this for forcing subtitles for some sections. Ā Current solution is you need to run 2 plex servers and sadly you can't even run them on the same box because the port is hardcoded!
I would actually extend this request to "being able to choose specific meta data agents per section". At the moment you can only choose Freebase or Movie Database and a language but there are great language specific meta data agents (e.g. for German OFDB) that could have the descriptions, subtitle agents, etc. in the desired language.
There are a multitude of requests scattered throughout this forum, and elsewhere on the internet, requesting ability to set audio/subtitle language preferences independently for each library/section. Heck, I posted such a request way back in 2011 when "Feature & Bug Voting" section didn't yet exist.
What it boils down to, is that there are a great number of users that, at a minimum, require ability to control audio/subtitle language preferences per library/section. After all it is only logical to be able to do so, since once can already set metadata language per library. I for one cannot fathom how could library language preference for metadata be implemented without media language preference. Instead we, the users, must resort to running multiple server instances or mutilating language metadata in media files.
Of course it would be even better, as others have suggested, to be able to control media language on a per series or even season, as well as per user. Furthermore, ability to change audio or subtitles en masse would also be great use (e.g. change entire series to use second audio track).
Again, one needs only to search this forum for 'audio language', or something similar, to find users looking for this or related feature.
This would be great! Still waiting for a better way to manage subtitles and audio. The newly updated settings for per user subtitle settings are great, but we still need something more granular.

This + it would be nice if the series/show remembered that you either enabled or disabled subtitles and what audio track you selected for the first episode and then applied the same if possible for subsequent episodes.
As it stands for me, I have to disable English subtitles for a dubbed show every episode or conversely enable them every episode.
A quick fix could be to add a language type of unknown and if selected in subtitle agent as second language . If Audio found to be unknown then subs would not appear .
I feel like the language configuration is very limited, especially compared to the rest of the software. I would even settle for a default language of āOriginal Languageā with one fallback language.
Basically, Plex struggles with the idea that media may come from multiple languages. If I am playing anime or a French movie, but they contain English tracks for commentary or dual audio, I do not want Plex to auto-choose English. I have had this happen to me multiple times, and it is very frustrating. Of course, what does work right now is if I am playing English media that has multi-language audio tracks, I do want it to default to English. Basically, the language should be able to be dictated by the media being played, not some global server-side setting.
I believe Plex should be able to do the below
Find Original Language data for TV/Movie libraries
