Language prefs are already user-account-specific.

I came into the forums looking for just this… I see this post is very old, is this still non-existent?
I have anime libraries that I would much prefer they default in JP language instead of having to manually change it from English every time I start a video in this library. Would also like to be able to set the subtitles to always be on in this library as well.
Can we not get library-specific language settings for audio and subtitles?

Is it really too difficult to at least give an option for Original Audio as the preferred language? Existing functionality could be leveraged almost fully, the only additional thing would be to pull the (available) metadata from the respective agents. This solution would solve most people’s issues as well, though there will be cases where they want multiple audio preferences regardless of Original Audio still, but those should be less in comparison.
I hope that the devs consider this “shortcut” of sorts to tackle the more complex issue. I know they just implemented multi-episode support, so they do pay attention to even longstanding feature requests. Would appreciate if a mod could maybe just forward the solution design I laid out earlier as I do think it could work.

Absolute upgrade in quality of this product for me and really anyone that enjoys Anime. I did see the other “by series” control of audio language, but I really think that is overkill. I am happy putting all of my specific language preferences in their own libraries. Also if any coding help is needed to facilitate this request I am happy to code away in the evening to make it happen. Just message me.

I would love better language control.
I have a host of Anime content which I would much prefer to watch in the original language with English subtitles. As of right now, I have to change this option on each episode as I watch. This is tedious, as I already have the content which I want to apply this change to separated into its own library.
Having the ability to set preference of “Original Language”, or specify an order of languages such as “Japanese > Korean > Other > English” would be great.
I think some of the other suggestions in this thread would make sense too, such as the hierarchy suggestion by twent4 would be great. Episode > Season > Series > Library > Global.
As well as the suggestions to Subtitles… following the same logic.

Running into this problem in 2020, 5 years after this post. Audio/subtitle selection is 100% core functionality that desperately needs updating.
First, implement it on a per-library basis. Second, implement it on a per-show basis. Third, disable it on the per-episode basis. There is ZERO argument for having to set the language on every episode transition – no sane user would expect the program to behave this way.

I’m surprised this isn’t a feature yet. I’d love to set my anime library to “Japanese Audio” and “English Subtitles”, but the global settings should remain “English” so I don’t get subs on absolutely everything in the library.

I would love to see this happen. I don’t think per series setting is strictly needed (it would be nice to have), but at the very least having per library settings for language preferences would be usable.
The current situation is causing enough pain for me to consider setting up a second Plex instance in a VM or something to work around this issue. It’s possible to work around this to the point where either you need to disable subtitles on the english language media or you risk not having subtitles on optimized content (which I have to do on the underpowered hardware I have).

Almost a 10 year old request. This really needs to be implemented. I wonder, if you add up all the plex users time spent, on changing an audio/lang setting, and waiting on buffering those changes. How much time you think it would be? Days? Weeks? YEARS?
Common guys this needs to moved near the top of the queue… or at least do the per series request. Control subtitles on a per-series basis - #72 by brmeeke

I would definitely like to see something like this Where I can set the Default Audio Language and Default Subtitle Language on a “Per-Library” basis.
- I’m a big Anime buff, and as such, I have separate libraries for my Anime Movies and Anime TV shows (i.e. the libs are: Movies, AnimeMovies, TV Shows, Anime TV) so as to not clutter up the mainstream libraries with Anime; since not everyone who uses my server likes Anime as much as I do.
- I’m also one of those folks that only watch my Anime in the original language with English subtitles.
Being able to set a different default Audio and Subtitle Language than the Global for these Libraries would make my show watching experience SOO much better, since I wouldn’t have to change the Audio Language and select a subtitle for every show/episode.

another +1 here, no new use case from me as many have already been covered but personally this would be great on my server for two reason
- I have bi-lingual members and it would be great to have French as native on a library but not on the whole server
- For anime library have it default to Japanese and English subs, and not have to set that globally and risk a random Japanese audio track and always have to put up with subs
currently we I have to set the language per episode… how is this still a thing
