Delete Dead Server

Server Version#: 4.100.1
Player Version#: N/A

I currently have two servers associated with my Plex account: Bibimbap and JP MBP. I am unable to remove JP MBP on my own. When I logged into Plex Media Server before I just installed the updated version of PMS, I just saw JP MBP. When I updated PMS, I saw both Bibimbap and JP MBP, then just JP MBP. Can you please delete JP MBP for me?

Have you already deleted it from your Authorized Devices?

https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

I did twice but it returned

Yeah you might need someone here from Plex to help delete from their end. Hopefully someone comes by soon

There is no server named “JP MBP” connected to the account, which you are using to post in this here forum.
There used to be one, but it was already removed in April.

So, if you still see this server name, then this means that the server might either

  • still be running under a different plex.tv account
  • might still be running without being logged into a plex.tv account at all

For starters, perform a log out, reboot, and log in on all plex clients where this old server is still shown.
Make sure to always use the same plex.tv credentials to log in, on all devices/clients/servers.

Hi Otto,

Thanks for your suggestions. I’ve only ever had one Plex.tv account as far as I know (it’s the one associated with Bibimbap). I’ve logged out, rebooted, and logged in on all Plex clients but JP MBP still persists. Any other ideas?

Best,
J

Restart your plex client once again. I have now looked for that server in another place and found and deleted it.

  • I restarted my Plex client by signing in and out of the desktop app.
  • When I signed back in, JP MBP (dead server) was the only available server.
  • Bibimbap (the server I use now) is missing:

  • I manually removed JP MBP from Account Settings.
  • When I log back into Plex, it wants to connect to JP MBP and Bibimbap remains missing:

  • Please advise how I can remove JP MBP from my account and restore Bibimbap. I’m happy to hop on a Zoom call if that would expedite the process.

I think you have this backwards.
Right now, JP MBP is the only active server in your account (last active 7 minutes ago.)
The deleted server has been seen 2 hours ago.

Reset the client under Settings - Plex for Mac - ‘Show Advanced’ - General - “Reset Customization”.

Thanks for the quick response! It’s possible my needs might have been lost in translation. Just to make sure we’re both on the same page:

  • I want to remove the empty/dead JP MBP server from my Plex account. It won’t seem to disappear even when I restart the Plex client or manually delete the server from Settings.

  • Several months ago I created a separate server called Bibimbap. This is the only server I want to preserve.

  • When I logged into Plex for the past several months, I would see both JP MBP and Bibimbap. Again, I want to get rid of JP MBP.

  • After following the instructions, I now only see JP MBP. Bibimbap is missing.

  • When I attempt to reset the client under Settings - Plex for Mac - ‘Show Advanced’ - General - Reset Customization, I only see an option to restore JP MBP, which is marked ‘unavailable.’ I do not see an option to restore Bibimbap.

  • Please advise. Is Bibimbap nested under JP MBP somehow? Thanks again for your patience.

Yet, this is the server that appears to be still running and communicating with plex.tv.
Is it possible that you changed the “friendly name” of the new server?

You seem to be at a completely different menu. Where I pointed you, there is nothing to “restore”. Certainly no servers.

Not to my knowledge. As far as I am aware I had to create a new server (Bibimbap) after I attempted to migrate external HDs with the old server (JP MBP).

I followed your instructions to – I’m copy-pasting what you wrote – Reset the client under Settings - Plex for Mac - ‘Show Advanced’ - General - “Reset Customization”.

I no longer have access to the Bibimbap server on my desktop client, although thankfully I seem to have access to it on Apple TV.

Can you tell me what steps I need to take to restore Bibimbap, not JP MBP, on my desktop client?

All I can tell is that this server is no longer connected to your Plex account.
You will have to re-claim it.

I reclaimed the Bibimbap server and can access it when I navigate to https://[IP Address]:32400/web. However, Bibimbap does not appear when I open my Plex desktop client.

Sign out and and back in on the desktop client.

Same problem. :-/ Is there any info I haven’t given you so far that could be useful?

Do you happen to have two or more “router”-type devices in your home network? It almost sounds as if you have your network split, so that the availability of servers depends on where the client has been connected.

Bibimbap content sits on a NAS while JP MBP content was an external HD that I migrated to the NAS.

A Plex server doesn’t run on a hard drive. It was running on your Mac. The hard drive was just the location where the media files were stored.
Chances are that the server on the Mac is still running.

But that’s not what my question was about.

I just have one router.
