Many videos in my library are recorded there (via PlayOn or HDHomeRun) for one-time viewing. Currently, I watch them on Roku via Plex, then have to go to my server (where the media is stored), locate the video, and delete it. I propose adding a “Delete” button to the “Play” menu, perhaps under the “…” sub-menu. I further propose that this function access could be (optionally) restricted by requiring a 4-digit passcode to execute. For example, if the “Delete requires passcode” option is “on”, then pressing this button will require the user to enter a passcode. If that passcode is not entered, the delete operation is not performed. If it is entered correctly, or the “Delete requires passcode” option is “off” (meaning the passcode prompt will not be displayed), then the media file is deleted from the server.
In summary, this introduces setup options:
- “Permit client delete of media”
- “Client delete of media requires passcode”
- “Media deletion passcode”
Further, it:
- Adds a “Delete” sub-option to the “…” menu
- Presents a prompt (“Please enter media-deletion passcode”) when “Delete” is pressed
I wonder if the options should be universal, or be unique to each media collection (e.g. I might want to delete the latest “60 Minutes” after viewing, but not any of my James Bond movies).
