Deleting synced content from phone deletes from library

Hello Everyone,

I have a few tv shows that I had synchronized down to my phone, watched them on a plane and then deleted them from my local device by going into sync status and telling the software to delete my synced content. For a few specific shows and episodes (not all of them), this appears to have also deleted my content from my Plex server. To make matters worse, I have restored this content from backup, but it keeps getting deleted regularly (within minutes of restoring sometimes). I have no idea how to get it to stop deleting the files from my local machine. It deletes them if they are stored locally or out on a NAS drive, there is nothing I can do to stop this.

Has anyone else run into issues like this? If so, any suggestions on how to fix this?

Check out the settings of the affected shows (unless they’ve been entirely deleted).
There’s 2 particular settings:

  1. Keep -> the amount / scope of unwatched episodes to keep
  2. Delete episodes after watching -> never, after 1 day, after 1 week

if you have configured the show not to “never delete episodes after watching”, it’s likely this is the cause of your episodes being deleted. deleting synced content usually doesn’t delete content on the server (except… well – there’s a first time for everything, but the above settings are more likely to be the culprit).
