Plex sync issues raising their ugly head again!

I’m a long distance truck driver so plex sync really is my bread and butter. I’m syncing from an iMac running the server to my galaxy s7 edge.

For maybe 2 months now sync has just plain stopped deleting watched shows. Even if I delete the show manually from sync it remains on my phone and I have to format the sd card and start from scratch each and everytime.

I’ve received messages from a few people over the net that have had the same issues and yet I never seem to be able to find recent posts about it myself, so here goes.

Would love a solution to this as its a right pain!

I’ve got a S7 and haven’t been experiencing this, at this very moment. It did happen to me before, but the SD card piece is new to me.

I think I reinstalled the app and it corrected the problem. I know I had to delete the content, then resync in order for it to disappear off of my sync list. Also, double check to make sure you can sync over mobile data (if that’s how you’re doing it).

Random: are you resetting/powering off your phone at any point?

Well that actually gives me hope. I’d love to get this working as it used to again.

So your syncing to local device then right? And when you’ve watched an episode of a show it deletes that episode and syncs the next one etc?

I have tried reinstalling quite recently to no avail. Phone is definitely set to sync over mobile aswell.

Phone gets powered off once a week minimum automatically but realistically prolly at least once every 2 days.

I don’t know if the fact that I’m syncing ALL (unwatched) makes any difference as apposed to limiting it to 10 etc. I just know that if I get parked up somewhere and go on a binge watch I might want more than 10 episodes per show.

Nope, I’m syncing to my 128GB SD card. I’ll have to test the episode piece. I’ll sync something up quick and get back to you.

Just curious, when did this start for you? Check out this thread I started a couple days ago…this might have something to do with it.

Also, saw this thread someone else has started. Sounds like an update may have broken parts of sync.

Tested this and I can confirm it is not working.

Hey thanks for your efforts. Glad I’m not alone then!

I’m back on the road this week so haven’t been able to access the thread properly.

I’ll check that other thread you linked but does sound connected to my issues.

Be so nice if they can fix it!

and suddenly it started working halfway through the week…???

Hasn’t worked for months but now?

Be nice if it stays working!

Can you provide me a log from the Android app after you delete a synced item?

Just show me the way, my Master!
Were do I find these precious logs you refer to?
I have right now four episodes that are removed from the synced list (and
also from the hard drive…) but that are still on my tablet

Backgroud:
I have a playlist with originally ~145 episodes that I sync to my tablet with 32 GB.
The playlist has currently 140 items, but a few of them are still present on the tablet.

I used to do this massive syncing manually before by added episode by episode but not I’m using a python script creating a playlist that I sync.

Ok. Looking at your logs it shows that you are out of space but it’s still trying to download more files. I’m not sure but I think the delete operation isn’t done until a sync job is finished to ensure something isn’t deleted unnecessarily. If possible, try to clear some space to allow the job to finish then see if the deletion works. Otherwise, you might need to start over with less synced items.

Well if that is the case, someone’s made a change.
The nifty thing with “overloading” the sync process was that when the items were removed from the synced list, the items were removed from device and the next item “in line” was synced down to the device without any further work.
If it works as you suggest (no blame  ) I must now make sure that I don’t try to sync more than there is space on the device, which I don’t know until I’ve filled the device, Catch 22 anyone?

One difference between now and then, I didn’t use a playlist for the syncing before. It was all manual labor which I tend to not like that much…

If it wasn’t so boring, I would try to sync downs >100 episodes the usual way just to test but it’s easier just to delete the synced list and start over again (minus the already deleted episodes).

I’m not sure if anythings changed or if the way you are creating the list is a factor. If you synced items using Plex’s normal smart list feature, then it will work as you say, but I’m not sure if there is a limitation when you load up more than will fit on the device.

I’ll do some testing as well.

Time for an algorithm computing the size of an episode based on original
size and sync size then…
More python programming

I am experiencing this also, on Android Nexus 7 Tablet, since about late October.
I had previously just chosen a bunch of different TV shows and movies to sync via the sync button under individual items, and it would download what it could, and then on watching or deleting items it would then sync down new items.
Now it gets full, doesn’t remove watched stuff and is stuck until delete all synced content and start over.

Not quite the correct order. It will sync first then delete (as mentioned above incase there is another sync job that would want the file still there, so it doesn’t end up re-syncing something that just got deleted). If your device is full so it can’t accomplish the download first, you may experience this issue.

That does appear to be how it works now, but it must have been different before October otherwise it would never have worked for me the previous 1-2 years!
I don’t see how this could ever be practical unless I had infinite storage (or a small list of items to sync)

Then we are a few people here that can agree upon that we had a different behavoir a few month ago, a behavior that in my opinion was better than the current.

You others wiith the same problem, are you using playlists to sync or are you syncing item by item?

I am doing item by item
