Dependence on Plex.tv

I found articles describing the internet dependence of plex.tv under various circumstances, but I was curious as to how dependent plex is on the plex.tv domain.

If the worst happened, and plex.tv closed tomorrow for unforseen circumstances, how much of my plex media server would continue to function?

Are there any work around for any issues that may arise due to the inability to authenticate?

Just curious as I like being as dependent on as little as possible for my media streaming.

Thanks!

Hmmm.
I would like to know also…

Hi
I posted this in the Plex Pass forum hoping some of those very smart folks would see and answer this…
Especially since the rest of the world cannot even see the info over there.

In fact It was suggested to put a link over there if you wanted someone to look at a general post.

Instead
My post was canceled instead of coming over here to answer it.

Let’s hope someone will answer it for all of us…

John

Some of the PlexPass features would no longer work, the ones that are coded to check if you have a valid PP subscription.
Gathering metadata for new content would probably no longer work either

But access your server using your local IP would still work.

Would I still be able to use remotely if I were to login to My server directly and not via Plex.tv??

What about logging in to one’s server if Plex.tv goes away?

Nevermind*

I’ve recently received bad advice in these forums about this:

If you are not logged on to plex.tv and you add new media, Plex is not able to update the database at plex.tv or locally.

It seems that you don’t actually need to be logged in, but if you’re getting issues, this might help:

Settings / server / network / show advanced
List of networks not requiring auth
192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0

(assumes you are on a standard home network with 192.168… naming scheme)
