"Deprecated" Plex Music Scanner (Legacy) - How long will it be around?

Server Version#:1.22.1.4275
Player Version#:N/A

After doing the Airsonic / DSub thing for a while, I decided to give Plex and PlexAmp another go. Creating a brand new Music library with the “Plex Music Scanner (Legacy)” scanner, “Personal Media Artists” agent and “prefer local metadata” options selected seems to be keeping all the external matching Plex wants to do out of my way, which is exactly what I want. My files are meticulously tagged and organized, and I just want to rely on my tags and art. No MusicBrainz or any of that for me.

So my question: “deprecated” means going away someday. At least it could. Any sense of when it will be going away? I like the way this setup seems to be working this time around, and if I have to I will grab a version of Plex that supports this approach and run it in a container and never update it, if that’s what it takes. I can use that instance of Plex just for music and another for Movies and TV that I keep updated.

Of course the other alternative is that Plex could acknowledge those of us with large live music libraries and take “metadata-only” scanners and agents off the chopping block. They do serve a purpose, even today.

When is the “Plex Music Scanner (Legacy)” going away?

Thanks for any help.

There are no immediately plans to remove it. Where did you see that this is “deprecated”?

Thanks for your reply! It’s described as such on this page:

Glad to hear it’s not going anywhere. I like the music solution I’ve got going now.

It may go away at some point.

There is no set date at this time but all python based scanners agent are going to be removed at some point. It depends on how long it takes all the new scanners to be up to snuff. It is depreciated in the sense that it will not be updated with any fixes/changes anymore.
