determine if Plex is using local network or going outside

Good morning,
I have been browsing through the forums trying to find a simple way to ensure that my traffic is going outside my local network. I have been running Plex on a ATV4 for the last month. Today, for completely different reasons, I checked my using with my provider, and my MTD internet usage has spiked significantly.

Is there some quick and easy way to determine if PLEX is using the local or public IP when streaming to the ATV4? I need to find out of it is PLEX or my family suddenly using MUCH more bandwidth that historically.

Server: Version 1.1.4.2757 - Windows

I do not have a lot of networking experience.

Thank you very much for any assistance.

@ken.beaudry did you ever solve this? I just noticed my amazon fire tv was streaming from the internet and not the local network, it was transcoding everything until I changed the “online quality” setting from 2Mbps to Original, then it started to direct play.

I changed the firmware on my router (installed DD-WRT), which enabled me to prevent DNS rebinding, blocked port 32400 going out (since I do not use outside my network anyway), and disabled secure connections in Plex.

After all of these changes, it is now streaming inside my network
