I have to PCs on the same privat network router , Windows 10 both and use Plex home theater for playback.
I dont understand why is that when i access my media on plex server from my laptop on the other room, plex is using over 20 Mbps to play my Blu-ray encodes ? Internet usage is just like when if I had played files remotely from another networks and naturally this has a huge impact on my download/upload speed otherwise. If i start to download/upload on high speed something else on the server machine the video will start to stutter and stop on my laptop so everything is linked. I have checked my network activity on the server taskbar and indeed plex is using my internet to play media to local machines, see below for screenshots.
I cant help but wonder what settings are wrong ? Does the server not recognize my local machine ?
I am on the latest plex versions and checked “Enable local network discovery (GDM)” on the pex server settings too. I will post the logs from my plex media server and screenshots of my network activity to show how my bandwidth is used. Also if i loose internet access local machines loose access to plex server. This takes the fun out of a otherwise excellent server.
Something is not right.
Your screenshot says that your server machine has the private IP address 192.168.0.197
Your logfile says your server has a local IP of 84.215.134.85 (this is a publicly available address, so it is directly reachable from the internet.)
Are you using VPN or similar techniques?
That being said, the Plex HomeTheater which appears to be installed on the same PC accesses PMS with the loopback address 127.0.0.1. This normally means that this traffic is completely local, (unless you twisted your network configuration severely).
Hmm, could be local but i just checked with another programm to track data usage its seems to show the same thing. Is this still all local ? Why is the playback effected then if i start to download/up something else ? Is there a way to tell PHT where the local ip address is perhaps ?
If this GlassWire app is just looking for publicly accessible IP adress blocks to classify traffic between local and public, then it would show you misleading data.
Because your Plex server doesn’t use a private IP address.
