[Device Profile Request] Nebula P1 (2026 Model) - Allow 4K Direct Play (Hardware Downscaling)

Hi Plex Team,

I am using the new Anker Nebula P1 (Model 2026) running Google TV.

The device has a native 1080p display resolution, but the SoC is fully capable of hardware decoding 4K HEVC/H.265 content and downscaling it to 1080p (verified via VLC and Kodi).

The Issue:

The Plex Android TV app falsely triggers a transcode for 4K content because it detects the 1080p display resolution and assumes the device cannot handle the 4K source file.

  • Error Message: “Device cannot play this video format in 3840 x 1600” (see attached screenshot).

  • Transcode Reason: Resolution limit / ExoPlayer logic.

  • Proof of Capability: When using VLC or Kodi (via Plex Addon) on the same device, the exact same 4K HEVC file plays smoothly via Direct Play with no dropped frames.

Request:

Could you please update the Android TV profile for the Nebula P1 to whitelist 4K HEVC playback? The hardware is powerful enough to handle the downscaling locally, and the current forced transcoding is unnecessary and burdens the server.

Attached are screenshots showing the error in the Plex native player vs. successful Direct Play in VLC.

Thanks!
