Did I get ripped off?

I ripped this a couple of times with a paid version of makeMKV.
I’m going to try in Handbrake jut to see.

My guess is the movie looks like 1080p and is probably mislabeled

I have the BluRay version but, get a 480p (SD resolution regular DVD
resolution in MakeMKV.

What gives?.

. …

What version of Plex Server are you running? When you play the file and look at the info (or just look at the xml), does the movie have the correct bitrate and resolution?

PMS Version 2.7.4

Your PMS can’t be 2.4.7, the latest Plex server in 1.xxxx. Go to your server settings in Plex and see what version you are running.

Also, doesn’t look like it is a 720p rip. Ar you sure your settings in makeMKV are correct?

2.7.4 is the web client - the server version would be 1.0.1 or 1.0.2, something like that.

I use MakeMKV and haven’t seen anything like that before. Are you running it as an administrator? I know it will run and have weird results if you don’t right click and run as administrator. Having said that, you are positive that’s not the DVD version? MakeMKV has no options for changing resolution, so you can’t even accidentally change the resolution.

This looks definitely like a regular DVD. Bitrate, frame rate and video codec support this theory.

@MattNA1966, perhaps you grabbed the DVD instead of the BD when you ripped it? My box came with both discs, and I have been known to grab the wrong disc and start transcoding. That would certainly account for the DVD bitrate and codec.

Sorry it’s Version 1.0.2.2413
I updated just yesterday. I got the same results in an older version of PMS.

All the settings in MakeMKV are default

In handbrake when scanning the bluray I get 80 chapters and quit a few numbers of them are 2:12 long some are 2:08
How can I tell which one is 1080? So far I see a 720 source.

I’m Running it as administrator now. The GB is a larger file old 6.05 new 7.0

how to find out whether your disc is a DVD or a BluRay:

  • put the disc into your optical drive
  • open your operating system’s file browser/explorer/finder and take a look at the root folder of the disc
  • if you see a folder named VIDEO_TS it is a DVD
  • if you see a folder named BDMV it is a BluRay

There may also be both versions on the bluray. In Makemkv expand the boxes that are checked and it will show the video information make sure you have the proper streams checked.

That filesize is definitely not BD. I have that movie, and the MakeMKV rip is 30GB.

Still the same results
The lager file was due to me inadvertently adding special features.

MPEG2VIDEO is not a Blu-Ray codec. You are not ripping a BD title. The Star Trek Into Darkness codec is H.264. Please review the suggestions made in this thread and make sure you actually are ripping a BD title.

Okay, but ripping in MakeMKV only shows one large chapter and that’s the Mpeg2 720X480, as an admin.

Handbrake shows many. They are all the same size in titles and time. I’m having difficulty finding a 1080 source.

Why not post a screenshot of what the MakeMKV screen shows.

I opened drive the letter of the bluray drive and only see a VIDEO-TS folder. :frowning:
I did get ripped off. Didn’t I?

I created a defective return to Amazon and a replacement should be here in a few days.

I received my replacement Blu-ray today and problem resolved! Better resolution and a True HD sound track,
oh and BTW, I know I wasn’t ripped off. lol
