I have 4 or 5 libraries where preview thumbnails are enabled. The behavior used to be that scanning in new media would add titles, detect intros, detect credits, generate chapter thumbnails, and generate playback thumbnails.
Now, adding titles only detects intros & credits. Chapter and playback thumbnails only generate if I analyze the new title. And even that’s kind of broken. Like, if I add a whole season of TV shows, analyzing the whole season doesn’t work. I have to analyze each individual episode, one-by-one, to generate thumbnails.
Looking at Library settings, I have “Generate video preview thumbnails” and “Generate chapter thumbnails” set as “as a scheduled task and when new media is added”. I haven’t changed any general library settings in… I don’t even remember when. Probably a couple of years.
Is there another setting I need to change or update to restore old behavior where it generates thumbnails whenever I add new titles?
Chiming in to say that I’ve got the same issue too. I made a post on r/Plex, and had a couple of other people that also had the same issue. Didn’t have this issue until updating to 1.40.4.8679.
I’m a bit of a control freak so I do everything manually through the web UI. I’ll switch to the library where I have new content to scan in, then use the library menu and select “Scan Library Files” and let it go from there. If I’m feeling particularly Type-A about it, I’ll click on the Activity menu and watch what’s happening. That’s when I noticed that it would add the new media, detect credits, detect intros and then stop.
When I click on the menu for the title card on a newly added title and then select Analyze, it immediately starts generating thumbnail previews (and chapter previews if there are any chapter markers). What’s particularly odd (for TV shows) is if I add more than one episode and Plex consolidates them in the “Recently Added…” section. If I click on the title card menu for the consolidated, multiple episodes and click Analyze, nothing happens. If I click into the season and pick Analyze for each individual episode that was just added, they start generating thumbnails.
Another behavior that I think is happening, but I haven’t been able to consistently reproduce… In a scenario where I add multiple titles and then manually Analyze each one, if I do that for multiple titles, it doesn’t queue them all up and then generate thumbnails for everything. It seems to do one (maybe two or three) and then stop. So I have to manually Analyze each title one-by-one but wait for each one to complete before I start another one if I want to ensure they’re all created. (This could be a red herring and just my imagination.)
Just to pile on, I’m seeing this as well (Windows, 1.40.4.8679). My scan/generate settings are identical to Plan-B, but I typically trigger scans outside of Plex (a context menu entry that invokes /library/sections/{section}/refresh?path={subfolder}). Like others, once the web app indicates no tasks are being run, analyzing the item kicks off preview thumbnail generation.
For me, scanning the library files adds the new titles to the library and does credit detection on them, but it no longer automatically generates video preview thumbnails or tags the item with filter tags (for example, a 4k HDR video won’t show up in my HDR filter) until I manually click on the item and analyze it.
Yes I’ve noticed this for a few weeks now. Whenever I add new media, neither chapter thumbnails or video preview thumbnails are generated right away. It does get generated during the scheduled task, but not when media is added.
Same here
Ubuntu 22.04 Plex Server 1.40.4.8679
And analyzing the season doesn’t work. must analyze each individual episode, one-by-one, analyze will begin.
I add about 3-5 movies and 2-5 TV series every day, and it’s a headache to manually click and analyze every time.
Please fix it as soon as possible.
Thanks!
I am having the same issue. I have it set to scheduled and when media is added. I even tried to change it to never, or just scheduled, then change it back to scheduled and when media is added. However adding new media and running manual scans only adds the media to the library and I see the intros being detected. No thumbnails for preview. Another weird thing that may be related. I am noticing the scheduled task is generating video preview thumbnails for content that already has them. I see it doing it for the same TV shows every night, ever since updating to stable version plexmediaserver-1.40.4.8679-424562606.x86_64.rpm RockyLinux 9
