Difference between player and web displays

I’ve noticed that when I view a video in the player, several pieces of metadata (like the studio, cast, etc.) show up that don’t in the Plex Web view. Is there a way to get Plex Web to display the additional information? It also usually shows collection information for one of the collections it’s a member of, but I could have like 10 collections set and it’s just one being shown (sometimes with a second row displaying the same collection name in a different library). Having this extra information displayed would be particularly handy as I go through my content and apply the right collections and correct the metadata.

I’m almost done in migrating a large library from whole DVD video files to chapter by chapter video files and I’m able to get a lot more granular with the new videos as a result. So I’ve been spending a bit of time lately doing exactly that, both via several custom Python scripts and just some manual intervention Setting good base collections is letting me build some interesting smart collections as well.

What is “the player” for you?

Sorry, I totally should have mentioned that. Plex for Android.

I find that Plex for Roku shows additional data and even more important for me, Plex for Roku shows me to view across for scene, episode or movie while playing the video - I don’t have to exit out of it to view or search.

  • I recently bought a new TV with Google TV built in and disliked the UI and Plex features so much, I purchased a Roku Ulta to ‘replace’ Google TV.

All the Plex clients are different for no apparent reason, and there’s nothing to do except buy the client you like best, like @jfreiman did.

It’s one of my very least favorite things about the platform. Imagine the chaos later this year when they launch the redesign and half the clients are new and half of them are old.
