Differences between PlexMediaServer and PlexMediaServer_PlexPass

Hello,
I’m a long-time Plex customer and I just get a lifetime Plex Pass.

I’m running the server on a Freenas jail, not a plugin.

My question is simple:
what are the differences, if any, between PlexMediaServer package and PlexMediaServer_PlexPass?

What I mean is that on my windows installation Plex MediaServer upgraded automatically to the latest version available to PlexPass holder. I thought it would have been the same on FreeNAS. Instead it seems that I have to uninstall PlexMediaServer package and install PlexMediaServer_PlexPass to have the latest version for PlexPass holder.

Am I right?

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe only Windows supports the auto-update function. So regardless if you have a Plex Pass or not, you’ll have to manually update on a Linux system.

I have the same question…Anybody knows the exact differences between “pass VS non pass” version on Freebsd? I always thought pass features are not available on freebsd…

Is this true? That’s a big difference than I think one would read that desciprion in the plugin catalog. I recently tried to update my plexpass version on a freenas 11.2 server and it appeared to reset back to what is currently the regular plexpass.

How did you try to update? If you installed plexpass via the pkg, then pkg update/upgrade will update your plex server on the plexpass train…

Any other info? Did you install via the plugins, via shell within the jail? How are you attempting to update? Etc…

Thanks for inquiring, I used the new IOCage plugin model in Freenas 11.2. I frankly didn’t see any “upgrade” options in the plugin manager like I expected to. I saw an upgrade button associated with the jail but that didn’t seem to do anything. I ultimately used the “iocage upgrade plex” (basically the name of my installed jail) command wich is what seemed to cross the streams of which plugin I had. The rc.conf file had settings for the plex pass version, but I now had the binaries for the regular plex version. I’ll probably blow it away and recreate shortly but would like to understand what my upgrade path is going to be in the new plugin model.
