Difficulty with remote AND local access

Those are IPv6 and, from the looks of your logs, you’re all IPv6 except for the one host IP?

What IP addresses are being handed out to the clients? IPv4 or IPv6 ?

clients appear to have IPv4 addresses

actually it appears they have both. I see MAC addresses for clients listed as connected both under IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. I might be missing something. obviously not very versed in networking unfortunately.

Can you turn all the LAN IPv6 off ?

Also, in Settings - Server - Network , Make certain ‘Support IPv6’ is also unchecked (Save changes if required)

IPv6 turned off and settings adjusted.
got green check for about 3 sec then went red againPlex Media Server Logs_2020-01-25_22-47-00.zip (4.2 MB)

Let’s ignore the Remote Access for the moment?

Since you LAN is IPv4. Please go into each adapter’s network settings and disable IPv6. Because it’s enabled, IPv6 addresses are being assigned and listed by Plex.

I don’t have IPv6 here at all (ISP doesn’t offer V6 yet) so can’t test further but suspect the V4/V6 duality is causing problems. AFAIK, Let the modem/router perform the IPv4 (LAN) ↔ IPv6 translation as it needs. Keep everything on your LAN IPv4.

Sorry got it. I believe I disabled IPv6 on the router. did the logs suggest otherwise?

I am able to access media locally on ipad. i just don’t know yet if that will remain the case as this seems to work intermittently.

Please restart PMS , let it sit 1 minute, then pull fresh logs. I only have adapter data from earlier today

Much better,

Is everything working or do the clients now need a simple restart as well?

They might need “Reset Customizations” and reselect the server as the default to accept the new IP address info.

the clients appear to be working. the test will be after leaving it alone for a while to see if they reconnect. i will test tomorrow. If everything looks good then hopefully we can tackle the remote access…

:+1:

Sounds good

Ok, seems i can now reliably connect locally.

Remotely if i disable and then enable remote access I get the “green light” for a few seconds and then it goes away. The red “x” is between the internet icon and the public information in my settngs. I believe I have ISP assigned IP address port 32400 forwarded to my servers IP/port 32400.

If you’re content with LAN stability, we can now move on.

What is the make and model of the modem you are using?

Motorola DOCSIS 3.0

I have been following this post as I’m having the same issues. I’m not able to understand all the troubleshooting taking place. However, I also have a Motorola modem through Comcast Xfinity. Never had any problems before the last couple weeks. It’s very frustrating. I can access everything through all of my wifi devices (iPads, phones, etc.), but cannot keep a connection on the very desktop computer that the server works from. And I never made any changes for this to take place.

@bowyerfam

If you will go and verify DEBUG logging is enabled, VERBOSE is disabled (Settings - Server - General - Show Advanced) then restart Plex.

After restart, wait 60-90 seconds for it to stabilize

Download the logs ZIP file and attach it here. I can then get a general sense of networking on the host and how things are connecting.

@pmscholtt

You have admin access to the modem?

If so, on the back or bottom should be a model number?

I do have admin access to the Modem.
16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem plus AC 1600 Router
Model: MG7540

I did a little deeper digging and changed external port to all 0’s on the port forwarding profile and it works!!!
