I am having the exact same problem on my Roku Streaming Stick+ When I am direct streaming or direct playing Live TV I get heavy artifacting on certain shows. (looks exactly as screenshot above) It definitely isn’t TV signal quality as they don’t show up in the recordings or if I playback on another device. I can replicate this 100% of the time when I record or watch “The Price is Right”. (1080i) If I turn down the quality to 20mbps it will force my server to transcode and the issue goes away but I don’t want to have to have my server transcode something that should be able to direct play. (One of the selling points of getting a Roku for a Plex Client) Also I can play higher bitrate blueray files without any issues.
I was thinking it was a Wifi issue as I was using an older router that only had Wireless N so I bought a new router which supports 802.11ac and see the same results. Roku is less than 20 feet away from wireless router and there should be more than enough bandwidth to handle playing the file. Also I have no issues on PMP or Android Mobile app over Wifi playing the same channel/file.
Very frustrating. I initially had Chromecasts and got sick of waiting for Live TV support. So then I started using PMP embedded on a Pi 3. Then was initially told it would be discontinued so I jumped ship again and bought Roku Streaming Stick+ as that is what was mentioned by Plex employee’s and moderators as “cheap replacement option” Finally thought I had the best option as a client since it had a grid guide, direct stream/play support, etc… but then see the above artifacting when playing Live TV. Very disappointing and frustrating. Then on top of that dealing with all of the time shifting issues, which I still don’t know are fixed 100%. Plex DVR has been out for over 3 years and it sometimes feels like it should still be in Beta. Sorry for the rant.
I’m more than willing to supply screenshots, logs, or whatever else you may need,.
