Direct Play Disabled on Samsung Q80T

Server Version#: 1.28.1.6104-788f82488
Player Version#: 5.44.6 Plex for Samsung

Hi there. Last Sunday is the last time Plex played correctly with no issues for me. Since then, every time I try to play something it buffers for a frustratingly long period of time, plays for a few seconds and then buffers again. Everything I play no matter what file format (even mp4), it says direct play is disabled and tries to transcode causing the bitrate to jump from 2Mbps up to 60Mbps as one example. This happens on every film.

I have updated the server and reset everything but it still happens. Are there any solutions?

Edit: Bitrate jumping from 2 Mbps to 60 Mbps when transcoding is indicative of a file that is poorly encoded or possibly has a damaged container. You may want to try remuxing or re-encoding that file.

Subtitles enabled? If so, try playing a movie with them turned off.

Are Direct Play and Direct Stream selected in the Plex Samsung app? If not, select them.

Please provide a set of log files that capture the problem.

  1. Make sure server is set for debug level logging
    Settings → Server_Name → General

  2. If you change the log level, restart Plex Media Server.

  3. Set the Plex Samsung app to log to the server at the debug level.

  4. Re-create the problem. Play a movie, subtitles off, for ~30 seconds, then stop playback.

  5. Wait 2 minutes for server to settle, pull the log files (Settings → Troubleshooting), and upload the zip file to this thread.

Hi, before I got to your reply I did some more testing. Essentially, the Plex app is behaving as if I have subtitles turned on when I don’t. The bandwidth load is identical as are the messages on the info screen.

My solution to this was to go into settings, and change “Burn Subtitles” to “Never”. However, I don’t think this really solves the issue permanently. I don’t know why this happened in the first place, and fear I will be completely out of luck next time I play something that has subtitles.

Can anyone offer any help here?

currently this is the only Bypass i have implemented and has worked efficiently.
The tv thinks and buffers when ever you have them on, essentially if it plays the movie without issue, the subs dont show… if you Enable BURN, it will again display the subs and play the show/movie but it Kinda… buffers. Turning off the subs works and if needed,

Using the TV controller POWER BUTTON. Leave the button pressed until you see the SAMSUNG LOGO/MODEL then release. Essentially this is a hard restart on the tv, re open plex and everything runs smoothly. Ive had to do this a few times a week and it solves everything. Whenever the issue is back, i implement again the burn subs/off or on and work around with that. Hope this helps
