"Direct play was attempted but failed, fallen back to transcoding."

@stevesolo

This is basic setup with the AVI.

  1. The TV (main) output of your AVR plugs into the TV as always
    If your TV has a HDMI port which also provides EARC return, plug the AVR into that port.
  2. The player device(s) plug into any one of your AVR’s HDMI input ports
  3. On the AVR, select the desired input

@ChuckPa

So I think that’s what I have now. The Chromecast is plugged into the AVR and when the corresponding input is selected the Chromecast dashboard is shown on the TV. Correct me if I am wrong, but with this configuration, direct play won’t work as we determined, only if I bypass the receiver. Essentially, it would be great if I can have the Chromecast HDMI video going to the TV while the HDMI or optical audio goes to the receiver.

Update: apparently the new Chromecast with Google TV (which I have) allows for the audio to be sent over bluetooth. So perhaps I can plug the Chromecast into the TV for video and then get a wireless bluetooth adapter for the receiver, like this one and use that for audio.

Spoke an A/V company our family has used before and the original suppliers of the current old Integra DTR 20.3 (they said it’s ~10 years old, lol. It was given to us from my father-in-law a few years ago.) They recommend the Denon AVR-X1700H.

There you go. The 10 year age explains why it can’t support what you need.

That is a good Denon. It will serve you VERY well.

It’s about the same price as I paid for my Onkyo a few years ago.
