Today… Right after I updated my QNAP PMS to the latest beta released, I saw for the first time a direct stream of the audio in 5.1! I thought “AWESOME!!!”
Well… It only happened that one time. Now it’s back to transcoding the AC3 to AAC.
Why?

Are you on still on the Shield? Exoplayer V2 supports AC3 decoding. Right now, only live TV uses Exoplayer v2. For media playback, including DVR recording, ExoPlayer V1 is still use. Does the transcoding happen on liveTv or media playback?
I dumped the Shield. (Again) I’m now using a Roku Premier+ that I picked up today for $50 at Best Buy.
So whatever the Roku uses is what gave me direct stream of 5.1 one time. I’ve never seen 5.1 for live or recorded media on any of my devices. So it really surprised me.

So I’m confused… Why did this only happen once?
