Can we have Mp2 & AAC_LATM Direct Play support?

Can we have mp2 & aac_latm Direct Play support? This would make for better Live TV and DVR content playback. Emby has both supported for Direct Play.

Any news on client-side down-mixing (5.1 to 2, for example) and encoding (All audio to PCM, for example); I read somewhere on the forums about hints of client-side downmixing and encoding but cannot find the specific post now. Anyone know?

I’m on a Shield TV.

AAC_LATM has been supported for months via a ExoPlayer 2.x branch inside of the client.

It’s not used for recoding playback though. Just live tv.

Oh really? That seems counter-intuitive. Thought that would’ve been rectified by now.

Simple conclusion - Plex don’t care about the UK. We simply don’t figure in their thinking.

I’d hazard a guess that the USA is their biggest market to be fair.

Must admit, it totally kills how useful the dvr recordings are due to the transcoding speed compared with direct play when coming to things like skipping

@kinoCharlino or anyone?

The switch to ExoPlayer v2 for library content will come soon, we just want to make sure it doesn’t introduce any regressions. Thanks for you patience, we understand that the lack for direct play support for some recording formats is frustrating.

@ManuelPG will you also be addressing the broken refresh rate switching in the latest Nvidia Shield Experience 6.0?

Hopefully this gets pushed to beta soon.

The new nVidia beta is available a few days ago

Yep, but it doesn’t address this problem as far as I can see …

This would be the best Christmas present Plex could give me … c’mon Plex, you’ve known that this hamstrings playback of HD in the UK since February!

Can the Plex elves work their magic in time?

Using Plex for Android 6.14.0, direct play of aac latm doesn’t work: https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/310365/aac-latm-transcoding-but-should-direct-play-plex-for-android-6-14-0#latest
