Directions for using OTA Antenna and Plex and Recording

I have been trying find directions for recording shows over the air using an outside antenna.
I have plex server running on my networked computer and have the plex app installed on my apple tv box.
I know how to install an OTA antenna into my TV and scan for new channels.
Exactly how do I use the Plex App on Apple TV box to record things from the OTA antenna?

I was going to get a lifetime license so I should have all features available to me, when I do that. I want to test some OTA antenna first - but how do I record shows OTA???

To watch and record live OTA TV with Plex, you need a Plex Pass and a network-attached digital television tuner—-one good example is HD Homerun.

To make it work, you plug the OTA antenna into your HD Homerun. Then, you plug an Ethernet cable from the HD Homerun into your network, either into your router or switch. Your Plex server should pick it up then and you can go from there. You can share live TV with your home users.

You do not need a network attached TV tuner. That is one option. You can also use a USB TV tuner plugged into the plex server.

Thank you. That’s helpful

Cool, I didn’t know that. Thanks!

Although I dare to say that the networked tuner is the best option.

Just curious…why do you say that? From a architectural view, directly attaching via USB seems like it should be a better solution…but that doesn’t mean its supported better…but both should work just fine and it shouldn’t really matter.

With a networked tuner, you don’t need to go on the hunt for driver software.
You are free to change the server software platform and the hardware almost freely, becaue there is zero additonal software necessary.

And a networked tuner can be positioned closer to the antenna, so that the coaxial cable can be kept short, for better signal quality = less dropouts.
