Why haven’t you built in the capability of recording the item right on the spot?
The way I do it currently is to ‘discover’ using Just Watch. Then I use PlayOn Home to record it on my HTPC Plex server. Done!
PS. If you’re familiar with PlayOn, I still have the depreciated Android app, from the PlayOn Desktop setup, which works wonderfully.
I’m not really sure what you are asking for. You can’t record anything in discover and it wasn’t intended for that.
You are basically requesting a pirating feature.
Which won’t happen in Plex.

Yes, that is my point. Cut out all the middle steps folks have to go through to record the program after they discovered it.

How do you feel it is pirating when after you go to the streaming service they have a big fat ‘Download’ button to click on? I’m only asking Plex to add the feature which PlayOn is based on. A single point for setting up downloads from all my subscribed streaming services. Another huge advantage is that the downloads are queued by PlayOn so it can jump between services as needed going through the queue. I can ask PlayOn to download a dozen movies and shows across the various services and walk away. Tomorrow they will all be sitting on my Plex desktop.
The developers of Radarr are actually working on implementing Plex’s new watchlist feature (Sonarr has already implemented it), so I suggest keeping an eye on it. It’s basically what you requested, but it’s not native to Plex.
Plex will never implement a feature for pirating content. PlayOn might fall in the grey legal area if you use their services for personal use only, but as soon as you integrate a feature similar to PlayOn with Plex (AKA being able to stream it), then the situation becomes more blurry.
Yes, PlayOn is probably somewhat legal in its current use-case, but if the big streaming platforms wanted to, they could probably sue them and shut them down with relative ease. Recording streams from Netflix, Hulu, HBO etc is against their TOS. This is a really murky grey area that Plex will definitely not want to get involved with.
After amending the thread title to reflect what feature‘s actually been suggested, I’ve noticed there’s already a suggestion addressing this very feature (though it’s a bit dated and not specifically mentioning „Discover“). Please comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
