There is an unsubscribe link in email that does take one to the website settings, but it should hopefully prevent having to dig around website to find it (option to disable emails is also in mobile apps notification settings.)
@M_403 @blackzwe I can say at least that muting individual friends is in the plans. Aspects of the other things @M_403 mentioned I know have been discussed before in some way but I dunno the form they might take and don’t want to promise anything right now
That’s good to hear BW! Yeah, those were initial thoughts and will wait for a week or so to give complete feedback after using it with my friends where things can be refined further.
Acknowledged. As a bandaid solution, our Plex Home starting today don’t share watch history. That somewhat clears up the feed.
Unless I’m missing something, would it be possible to add a link to every email that is shared? I have a few emails that have been sent due to plex friends sharing things but each email is essentially a fancy push notification since it just has the same information “Friend shared this movie and said this”
Could you add the unsubscribe link to these emails? Unless they’re already there but I can’t seem to find it
I must say, see a lot of potential here to differentiate Plex from the competition. Good innovation.
@Epic-Stephen I don’t believe it is on bottom of messages from friends ones but I will pass that along. thanks for feedback
@Epic-Stephen looks like it was a miss on our part and the unsubscribe should have been on message emails as well. I was told the unsubscribe link is being added
Would just like to add to this that I think that hiding friends watched activity from Activity would really help with the clutter, but I also think it should be implemented through a filter of the Activity page as a whole (with multiple filters). I may still want to see this data from Movie / Show pages to see which of my friends have seen it / have not, so a toggle to hide something entirely would be a little counterintuitive (at least for me).
This would be a more elegant solution… Point forward.
Yeah some filters on the activity page similar to the filters on the servers play history is something i have been trying to push for as well.
I’m seeing options to share Films and TV (and they’re working perfectly!) but I don’t seem to be able to share anything music-related (album, track, playlist etc.) Am I missing something or is this a feature that may come soon?
Poking around this… I can see how this would be an incredibly interactive experience for me, having a full feed of everything my friends are doing if they participate.
Unsure how this will look for my friends, almost all of which only have access to my server. Assumption is that they will only see what I watch, and my activity. Unless I’m SUPER active on posting reviews and such, I’m not sure this would be a fun/immersive experience for them?
Mine wasn’t. All three categories were enabled to share with friends. I had to manually turn them to private.
Correct. When you visit the enrollment page, your choices are defaulted to Friends but if you do not visit the enrollment page then those settings are set to Private. So any friends who have not seen the enrollment page are set to private. You can check their account from your Profile to see that they are private, if you know they have not gone through the enrollment.
@AmazingRando24 If your Plex Friends know each other, they can Friend one another and share their Watch History, Watchlist, or Ratings. No need for you do all the heavy lifting there ![]()
I can see this potentially evolving into something they have a lot of fun with. Sounds like I may have some heavy lifting in explaining this to them all. Most of them know each other, and it would be way easier if they could “friend” each other from a list on my server, or something. Would be even SUPER easier if they could do all of this through their preferred app, as I’m pretty sure none of them have ever touched the web interface.
Food for thought.
Also… I LOVE that this is turned off by default.
Finding some trepidation on initially telling people about it. They’re a bit concerned about everyone seeing what they’re doing on the surface. Kudos for designing it that way.
Thanks for the enrollment clarification, @Atomatth. I have a few more questions about the concept of Friends relative to this new feature.
-
Almost none of my friends have their own media servers; they just access content from my server. As such, none of them have Plex Pass. I can still share my ‘Discover Together’ information with them, right? And do they have to enroll in the beta, or is that just for server owners?
-
Same question as above, but for server owners that have added me as a Friend. I’m assuming they can’t participate in this beta without having a Plex Pass and enrolling, but can I still share with them like any other Friend?
-
I think this was stated or implied already, but just to be sure … I can now create Friends for the purpose of sharing ‘Discover Together’ information, but who do not have access to any of my server’s content, correct? [as in, for example, “This is a great movie and I recommend you buy or rent it”]
-
I see the request status page, but I don’t see a way to initiate a request. Is that because none of my Friends who’ve shared content with me are yet enrolled in the beta, so there are no users to send a request to? If they do enroll, from where would I initiate a request?
Thanks again. This is a cool feature!
Some quality of life feedback.
The link to your profile page from the dropdown menu (avatar in top right corner) in Plex Web goes to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/profile which doesn’t have the pivot tabs. This results in a weird navigation state where you can’t easily switch to Activity or Friends. Instead, I think the link should go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/media/tv.plex.provider.discover?source=home&pivot=discover.profile which is the URL if you visit your profile from the Discover source and includes the pivot tabs.
@SwiftPanda16, will this still work for those who disabled Discover ? Like me
