Hey there! Quick question: Can we show the track number while a song is playing, next to the track name?
Curious to know if that’s possible! Let me know your thoughts!
Anything is possible…
It seems visually noisy, and we’re trying to keep that area cleaner
Maybe a below-the-fold thing, or on the track menu you get when you tap the titles?
I totally get your point. I just happened to be looking down at the play screen and was wondering how deep into the album I was. You’re absolutely correct; I can find this info in the album details.
If I had to pick though, I’d prefer having the track number instead of the (yyyy) next to the album title onscreen. The (yyyy) tags aren’t necessary according to the Plex music naming guide, so it might be a good idea to remove them here too to save even more space. What do you think?
Apples to oranges. The naming guide is about helping Plex to properly identify the album, so it is intended for machine consumption.
This has nothing to do with the player screen which is aimed at the user.
Personally, I don’t want to miss the release year in the player screen. It is very useful when playing mixed playlists and radios to get an idea about what is playing.
I agree about liking and having the release year (yyyy) on the player screen. But the request to have the track number prefacing the track name would be a distraction for me and too busy. All the major players (Roon, Tidal, Spotify, etc) don’t display the track number on the now playing screen. As Elan stated, they could consider adding it to the popup screen when you tap the track name. It could be displayed there as a non-bolded number like they do on the album view. Sorry, but I consider the current Plexamp now playing screen pretty much perfect as is.
I’m actually okay with having the year (yyyy) tag, it doesn’t bother me. I just wanted to mention it because Elan brought up screen clutter.
Adding two digits for the track number doesn’t seem cluttered to me (year tag seems worse actually), but as you said, different strokes for different folks.
I don’t think adding two digits for the track number would clutter the screen unreasonably, but it seems like many prefer it without.
I change my mind often about displaying the year after the album (especially if they came out this year; feels redundant), and I could see there being a subtle • 1/13 in its place, at least when I have display year off.
It distinguishes between albums which came out this year and albums which are missing a release date ![]()
I’m curious, when might this happen? Are you talking about unreleased promo songs for an upcoming album?
We’ve added in the player popup menu for the next release.
