In Plexamp on Android the now playing screen and Back To & Up Next lists don’t show the track number, is this normal? I would have thought the track number is essential information, I can’t think of another player that doesn’t show the track number, if this is actually the way it is can this be added in a future update please.
Also Artists are sorted by first word either first name for solo artist and groups with The, even though the tags aren’t that for example my Artist & Album artist tags are “Beatles, The” but Plexamp sorts as “The Beatles”
There is no need to resort to mangling artist names like that.
Plex has support for a Sort Title for library items of all kinds.
And that is what is used for sorting the library in all Plex clients.
It’s just the way I’ve tagged my files over the years, works perfectly fine for me, but why is Plex rearranging my tag (not on all artists though, why?) and then sorting on first name, on another inspection it’s not sorting on the “The” though.
It’s set to use embedded tags.
I don’t mind it rearranging the tag as long as it’s consistant and sorts correctly, is there a setting I’m missing?
When the Sort title is set like this, The Beatles will appear among the B’s in the library.
Plex will automatically create these sort titles by omitting common articles like “the”, “el”, “der” etc.pp.
There are also special meta tags to fill these “sort titles”.
Plex does read them. But in the case of an artist name, it does so only when the artist didn’t previously exist in the library.
Thanks Otto, as I’ve stated rescan read my tags correctly, the way I like them, however Plex’s tagging seems inconsistant with Artist names in that as an example The Beatles will be shown as The Beatles but a more obscure artist such as The Immediate Family shows as what’s in my tag “Immediate Family, The” if it’s going to change well known artists it should change them all automatically without the need to manually change every artist, just my opinion.
Also doesn’t address the issue of sorting on first name instead of last name, again a well known artist seems to be displayed as, eg. Steve Hackett and sorted as Steve yet lesser known artist stays with my tag eg. “Allenby, Dave” and gets sorted as Allenby.
So should Plex be sorting on Last name automatically, which I would have thought would be the obvious way, or do I need to edit the sort artist everytime? Hence why I prefer my tags as doesn’t matter what app is used if it reads the tags it will always sorted correctly.
Plexamp simply doesn’t show track numbers in the play queue view.
The play queue doesn’t necessarily follow the order of an album anyway, because you can re-arrange the order of tracks in it, or add more tracks from different albums and artists.
Track numbers are shown when you look at a particular album, though.
It’s just that if I’m playing a new album when I’m exercising or driving and I like the track I just look at now playing and only have to remember the track number not the title, using plex I’ll have to go back to the album view to see the number, a small inconvenience.
