Distributed Transcoding on local computers

I run plex on a NAS that is fine for 1080p and 4k SDR content, but can struggle when it has to tone map 4k HDR content. I was thinking, what if you had an server that ran on your local PC(s) that the plex server could use to assist in transcoding. It would announce itself on a local port within the network, the plex server would see it and add it to its available resources, then it would send chunks to the other computer to transcode and send back to the plex server where it’s assembled and sent out. On the PC side, you could choose to use NVENC for example so that it has a minimal impact on performance. Even old computers that are not capable of transcoding live 4k HDR content on their own could assist.

If there were such an ability, it could also lead to dedicated plex transcoding hardware that could just be added to any network and enable even the crappiest NAS to serve multiple 4k HDR tone mapped transcodes. It could be part of the plex pass features as well.
