Plex Server with parallel transcoding feature.

The idea of giving a PLEX server on local network the ability to detect another PLEX servers and share CPU load for transcoding a video then it will stream it to individual clients.

The main server will be MASTER to deliver the videos and others will be SLAVES (To help transcode)

As we know, there’s NVIDIA Shield, Routers, NAS, Raspberry pi…with PLEX server support that could handle to stream but not to transcode due the lack of processing power or it can transcode but can’t deliver with full HD resolutions or its powerful to transcode on the fly.
Therefore, it will beneficial to use idle processing power sitting not being used.

Some of the Benefits:
• It will lower CPU usage on the main server.
• It will allow more users to watch from your server.
• It will allow you to watch transcoded videos with higher resolutions.
• PLEX Pass mark will be higher whenever you add another gadget with powerful CPU….

The list will go on, think about all the small gadgets that you have while you can combine it processing power!!!

Maybe later we could use Cloud Based PLEX server for parallel processing as well…
I can’t wait to see PLEX also using GPUs for hardware acceleration.

Click on “Like” so we could gain this feature…

Pretty sure there was already a third party solution that aggregates Plex Servers together for transcoding, but I haven’t visited that thread in a long time. However, with Plex adding hardware decoding/encoding capabilities, is this something that the devs need to focus on anymore?
