DNS stops working after some time

I've been trying to use PlexConnect on my AppleTV to get rid of my iTunes dependency.  It works great for a random amount of time.  Sometimes a couple days, sometimes more than a week.  However, eventually, DNS stops working.  I can no longer resolve anything externally or internally (which means getting to any other apps on the AppleTVs that are pointing to PlexConnect, no longer works.  I can restart PlexConnect and it starts working again.  Is the only solution to this to setup an external DNS server (external to the built-in DNS server) and setup the trailers.apple.com DNS hi-jack there?

Is your ATV sleeping? If so, try disabling it.

No, It’s not a problem in the appletv, it’s the DNS server that runs within plexconnect stops proxying DNS requests. It really stops responding to all DNS requests.

The machine that’s serving the plexconnect also isn’t sleeping as it’s also serving my iTunes library and my Plex library, itunes works fine on other ATVs and plex works fine on other non-plexconnect plex devices. If I change the DNS on the ATVs that are currently pointing to plexconnect for their DNS, everything starts working.

A while back, I ran a bind server and hijacked the DNS that way and never had a problem. Only issue now is I got rid of my server setup to simplify things at home and now I have the problem with PC DNS stops working.

I have Plexconnect running in an old pc and it seldom gets rebooted and I have never had this problem.

Maybe a log from when the error happens. And given it can be random, it will be a long log, so mention the time the issue occurs (remember to update settings.cfg to have log level = High, and restart Plexconnect so it will log more information)
