I have plex pass, I granted access to my gf’s account but she still gets the playback limit. Is this only on mobile devices or everywhere or what is the exact situation with sharing; what can and can’t be done if the server has plex pass but the shared accounts don’t?
(asking because I read some sites that were claiming this should be possible but maybe things have changed so I don’t know what’s the expected behavior)
That restriction is only for the mobile apps.
You can either pay a one time $5 fee to unlock it (that is linked to the store account you use, so your Apple ID or the Gmail account you are logged in with on Android). That means in the future you can restore the purchase if needed.
The other option is you can create a home and add your girlfriend to that and she’ll “inherit” the Plex Pass benefits on her account.
Some of the benefits I can think of for Plex Pass are the skip intro feature, being able to download media to your devices, live TV/DVR and using hardware acceleration (though that last one is mostly for server admin).
There might be things I’m missing, but honestly, most people will probably be fine without a Plex Pass when someone shares with them.
I did that, added her to plex home and she still got it. I’ll tell her to relog, maybe it was a cache issue, but in theory it SHOULD work, that’s what I want to figure out now.
If having her logout and log back in doesn’t work (it should), try logging into your account on her phone and then switching to her account as another option.
