Do I have a Plex Pass (lifetime) problem?

Server Version#:DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 3
Player Version#:

I think this might be a Plex Pass (lifetime) issue, but not sure. I have my PMS installed on a Synology 920+ NAS. I did some network reconfiguration which ended up changing the NAS IP and the PMS IP with it. Now, opening Plex with the URL “xxx.xxx.xxx”:32400/web/index.html#!/, it opens as a nonsecure page and other PMS’s I share with are not visible. But, if I log on using the url app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/, it works fine.

What has happened?

The Plex Pass changes have not gone into affect yet and assuming that is local IP would not be affected anyway.

Did you try putting an https:// I front of the IP?

Additionally there is no benefit to using the IP directly except for initial set up. So if app.plex.tv works I would just use that

But, if I use app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/, in the event of an internet outage, I wouldn’t be able to access my PMS, would I?

If you don’t have internet sure use the local IP. it sounded like your concern wash accessing other PMSs that folks shared with you.

If you don’t have internet secure connections would not work anyway and folks could not connect from the outside nor you to them

My concern is making my server available to others, but when I saw the “not secure” flag, I was concered about my server security. Using “https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/” works from my desktop, however, my PMS is installed on a Synology NAS and it opens Plex with the “non-secure” link and I haven’t found how to change that.

Open Plex/Web using your new local IP address, then in Plex/Web, sign out and then back in again.

Go to Plex Settings > Server > General and make sure the server is claimed.

That should sort out any issues with your servers change of IP address etc.

Should I see any change after doing this, because I did not? Does that mean the new IP was already recognized?

maybe it would help if we understood what you did exactly

I have a mesh network and the main router failed. I decided to take it all down and rebuild it which included resetting the AT&T modem (in “passthrough” mode). The PMS IP change was because of an IP reassignment to the Synology NAS that houses my PMS.

I’m not sure the “non secure” URL resulted from this rebuild. It’s just it was the first I’d noticed it. It could well have existed before the mesh router failure.

You did not state what you did, so it’s difficult to say with any certainty.

Assuming you followed the instructions given, there should be no differences visually except for stating the server is claimed.

Your server should now be using the new local IP address and should have connectivity with all devices in your LAN.

By default, all Synology NAS have an insecure (http) connection to the LAN. You can change that, but it is not really required within your LAN.

All WAN connections should be secure though (https).

You have satisfactorily answered my question concerning the Not secure URL. Thanks.

It seems, also, I had a bit of a red herring because the DS-920+ showed the Not secure URL in red text and the letters HTTPS in strikethough text, as well. My DS-216J only shows the URL text as B/W and does not include HTTPS. I have no idea how long that has been that way, but I suspect a DSM version update inserted the red text and I never noticed.

Anyway, I’m good.
