Plex No Longer A Secure Connection For Synology DS916+

Server Version#: 1.15.5.994-4610c6e8d
Player Version#: 3.99.2

My Synology all of a sudden started rejecting the Plex connection shortly after the last Plex update because the connection was no longer a secure connection. I have reinstalled Plex on my Synology device several times and still not able to connect. Even added the Plex key as a trusted source for installations and still not connecting anymore. Not sure what has happened but through all the restarts and reinstallations I’m at a lost. Can someone please help me mediate this issue?

Please and Thanks

I am not an expert for Synology.
But this change can have a very drastic effect on the function of your server, so make sure you have read it (and take the necessary measures).
It could be related to your issues:

Thanks Otto,

I done these settings as well and to no avail. I think my issue is not necessarily a permissions thing. My Synology device is rejecting the connection from Plex because it’s not a secure connection. It an HTTP vs HTTPS thing. Even though I have my device set to redirect incoming HTTP connections to HTTPS it’s still not liking Plex anymore. Plex url is setup to come in from http://servername.synology.me:32400/web. This wasn’t an issue before but not my NAS is rejecting the connection. When speaking with Synology they explained that my device is functioning correctly but the issue is with Plex. This is why I’m posting here to see if I can get some clarity on what’s happening.

Try app.plex.tv instead. The security certificate for servername.synology.me might get rejected.

OK,

So my Synology 916+ has the Plex app built-in and installed on it. So when I’m accessing Plex remotely or locally through my Plex account login, it trying to connect to the NAS. The NAS has the app installed and is hosting all media files. No matter what way I’m chosing to access Plex, the NAS is rejecting the communication from Plex because it’s not a secure connection from Plex. The NAS now no longer trust the app itself and the connection it’s using for access to media resources. So the newest version of Plex must have broken something and changed something about the way it’s trying to connect that the Synology device doesn’t like or trust. Maybe it’s the encryption or lack there of.

Thanks trumpy81,

I don’t have the directory you have referred to. I have Plex setup to point at different genres in the movie folder that I created. Should I have a Plex folder instead? My issue is that my DDNS host name setup with Synology is now completely stopping Plex from connecting. I can still see my Plex server name in the web app when I log into my Plex account but the main issue seems to be that my DDNS host name no longer trust Plex period and won’t allow the connection that would allow me to see libraries anymore or get to the settings in the web app.

Answering while trumpy is away:

  1. Control Panel - Shared Folders - Plex share (EDIT button) - Permissions tab
  2. Give your username R/W permission.
  3. Save the changes.
  4. Now you can see it in File Station.

Thanks for the advice guys I really appreciate the help. I think at this point this is a Synology issue and not Plex. Not matter what steps I take to remedy this and out seems to always be xxxxx.synology.me refused to connect. My Plex media server is installed on and ran by my Synology DS916+ device. This issue came out of nowhere. I installed PMS on a different device, logged my Plex account and what-do-you-know, there’s the server listed. I’m going to continue this with Synology support since it’s clear to that it’s on their end. Thanks again guys.

OK so this default URL is why Plex is being blocked or the connection being refused by NAS device. Can I can this or forward this to a secure port that would allow Plex to establish a secure connection again? If so then how. I have the Synology DS916+ NAS.

Plex3

OK, when I log in this is what I have:

Once I click on settings this is what I have:

Since Plex can’t see the media serve anymore, there’s no real setting I can do. I really have no idea of whats going on here because this issue just started without warning and I can’t for the life of me figure out what broke.

I feel like I have to run Plex from my desktop now instead of my NAS since it no longer once to allow the connection. So far no port forwarding I have done has work but before I never needed to do this. I literally just woke up one morning and Plex was no longer working for some reason. No changes to the router, no updates or nothing. Just Plex is gone.

Hi Spud,

I am successfully running my Plex server on a Synology DS916+ without an issue. Is there anything I can do to help you? One thing I notice in your Plex login the screenshot is that your Plex application is looking for the server. You might go into Plex and look for your server configuration’s and re-enter that information. My plex screen comes up looking at my NAS right from the start up. As I’m sure yours did previously. If I can be of any help, please let me know.

Best regards,
Kev
