I’ve been doing quite some reading but unfortunately, I’m still confused. Will the following current work?:
**Planning to buy a NAS QNAP **
NAS server to stream through Nvidia Shield
Planning to buy Nvidia Shield (Pro or normal)
Plex media player able to run 4k video and TrueHD Atmos (vs the LG WebOS) and send it directly to my LG Oled B9
Here’s where I start to get confused, how can it send lossless TrueHD if it only connects in to a normal HDMI and not an E-Arc supported slot, give that the only one will be used to connect my TV to my Sonos ARC?
Already own a LG Oled B9
Able to “passthrough” TrueHD (apparently?) via the output of HMDI E-Arc.
Already own a Sonos Arc
The soundbar does the rest by connecting with a HDMI 2.1 cable.
Would this setup work? I’m confused about the aspect of “passthrough” vs. “requiring a receiver”.
Many thanks for any indication on that.
P. S. Lastly, if the suggested setup would work, do you recommend the shield pro or normal version? I don’t see any difference with the exception that in one of the threads I’ve read early this morning they’d recommend the pro version (tho not argument to support that)
Buy a 2019 Shield Pro, not the tube model, and connect it to a HDMI input on the B9.
Shield ← HDMI → LG ← HDMI-eARC → Sonos
Make sure the LG & Sonos are communicating via HDMI-eARC, not HDMI-ARC.
The B9 and the Sonos ARC support HDMI-eARC. Reference: LG, Sonos
The Sonos ARC supports TrueHD + Atmos. Reference: Sonos
The Plex app on the LG cannot pass TrueHD audio via HDMI-eARC to attached audio equipment due to LG restrictions.
Devices attached to the TV’s HDMI inputs can pass TrueHD audio via HDMI-eARC to attached audio equipment.
Do not purchase the non-Pro Shield. The Plex app on that model has issues with high bit rate video and audio such as 4K HDR movies with TrueHD audio. Search the forum with “Shield Tube” or similar terms to see the posts.
