Do I need to disable local network "no auth needed" for

Server Version#: 1.16.5.1554
Player Version#: Various

Presently for the house, I have “List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth” in the server config set for my local network (10.0.42.0/24). It works fine with my AppleTV4, older Apple TV2’s (using the ‘trailers’ work around) and roommates laptop.

But I’d like to make some libraries available to MY Apple TV 4, but not the other devices on the LAN. Should I disable "allowed without auth… " (or perhaps make that smaller?) and make sure my Apple TV does authentication?

I can easily set up a new account for the rest of the house that I can authenticate in with, assuming those devices allow me to (haven’t checked if the ‘trailers’ workaround will allow that), then have my personal account authenticate off my TV.

Just wanting to have another library available to myself in my room but not available to anyone else.

Thanks for any pointers.

You can put a list of IP addresses into that field, instead of a network range.

Tell your router to hand out always the same IP to those devices which are suposed to have access. (called ‘DHCP reservation’ or similar)
Then put in those addresses, each separated by comma, without any space inbetween into "allowed without auth… "

I feel pretty dumb to have not thought of that! Wow, that’s just the simplest idea. Thanks.

And yes, I have access to the DHCP table to I can static any of the devices in the house.

Or if you want to make it more sophisticated, “subnet” it by making the netmask smaller. Saves some typing, but also requires you to control assignments to this new, smaller IP range.

I created another free account for the living room TV and simply allowed the bedroom TV in the allowed access IP list. Worked a champ! Thanks again.
