Doc Martin Xmas-Special "Last Christmas in Portwenn" (S10E9) will not load meta data in plex

Server Version#:1.32.2.7100
Player Version#:4.100.1
Lifetime plex pass

I have the whole series on my NAS but plex does not recognize the very last xmas-Special episode.
All other 10 Seasons it recognizes but not the last episode the imdb says the xmas Special is Season 10 Episode 09.
I tried to use the “fix match” option but either it’s gone or i can’t find it anymore. Back in the days i just used the imdb id tag to fix such problems when plex did’t recognize something.

I only find the “fix match” option in the movie section not the series section.
Any suggestions where i can find the “fix match” option or any other solution?

If your using the default, tmdb episode ordering then it appears this episode is actually under specials and not season 10Doc Martin: Season 0 (2001) — The Movie Database (TMDB)

Try naming the episode using S00E08 rather than S10E09 and see if that helps. Alternatively switch the episode ordering for the show to tvdb (aired) if you would rather use their naming scheme.

Actually scrap that. There appears to be 2 christmas specials over at tvdb …

I’m not familar enough with the show to know if these are indeed separate broadcasts or dups of each other. According to this report Reported Problem for Last Christmas in Portwenn (10x9) - Discuss Doc Martin — The Movie Database (TMDB) tmdb seem to think is the same episode but as I say I’m not sure.

Regardless, only one exists on tmdb so your best bet is to confirm the episode ordering for the show is set to tvdb (aired).

It works with the TVDB order for either
s10e09
s00e10

s10e09 does not appear to pull a thumbnail poster for the episode but all the other info is there

Hello,
thanks for the help - the change to “TheTVDB” helped - my setting was on “The Movie Database”.
Strange that the “fix match” option is only available for movies and not Series.

it is available but not for individual episodes or seasons. only the whole series. When you change the episode ordering is it rematching the entire series

Just out of interest, does specifying the IMDb ID work on individual TV episodes?

I note that every TV episode has an unique IMDb ID (and that it’s different to the ID for the series), so would it work naming the file as follows…

Doc Martin - S10E09 - Last Christmas in Portwenn {imdb- tt23137188}

Would this fetch the correct metadata for that episode even if the episodes were numbered differently?

In other words, if I were to create my own fictional 11th season by naming the file…

Doc Martin - S11E01 - Last Christmas in Portwenn {imdb- tt23137188}

…would it still pickup the correct metadata?

Alternately, is there such a thing as specifying a TheTVDB ID? Something like…

Doc Martin - S10E09 - Last Christmas in Portwenn {thetvdb- 9534744}

This may be an alternative to being able to “Fix Match” individual episodes?

No, as in your first example the IMDB number can not be used at all for tv shows. IMDB numbers are only used to help match movies. If you are naming TV shows don’t even look there

IMDB and TMDB id’s = (movies)
TVDB and TMDB id’s = (tv series)

The TVDB or TMDB number is the same as BigWheel stated above. That number doesn’t actually designate what metadata is pulled. It is only there for the main show folder to help match it

The show order is what helps decide what metadata to pull if the TVDB and TMDB differ in order or overall organization. I.e. TVDB has 5 seasons for a show but TMDB only shows 3

You can’t mix and match things inside a show once that show order has been chosen. If you chose the TVDB show order you have to follow their naming from beginning to end for the whole show.

The “fix” has to be done on your file system by renaming the file, not inside Plex for just a few episodes

Thanks,

I spent, or should I say wasted, several hours today trying to make it work but, as you say, it doesn’t.

It’s a pity it doesn’t work as it’d be a nice work-around for not being able to fix-match individual episodes.

I have several problems with the way TVDB orders the episodes, sometimes I want to insert something which they call a “special” into the main timeline… where it actually belongs.

Or, if I have “production numbers” available for each episode, I like to place them in correct production order, not in the order that some broadcaster decided would best fit their schedule.

Unfortunately, sometimes the TVDB episode orders (either Aired, DVD, or Absolute) don’t match what I want, so I have to manually adjust all the metadata, which is a real PITA, especially when a NAS OS update wipes out your whole Plex database and you have to start from scratch (thanks Synology).

If you have specials in a Season 00 or Specials folder, they will play in order based on the main timeline using the continue watching

If there was a Christmas special that came between seasons 2 and 3, the special would be named for example s00e41 in the specials folder BUT…

As you watch the show that special will still pop up in between s02e10 and s03e01 because it’s based on the date, not the season number or folder where it’s contained

You don’t see that order in a typical library view but in most cases you don’t have to manually rename the show trying to fit it where you believe it should belong

It’s a bit misleading the way it works, so look at the dates of the specials before you go through the effort to try and readjust everything
