Plex not matching TVDB order for Bizzare Foods series

Server Version#: 1.41.1.9057
Player Version#: 4.141.0

I am stumped. My Plex refuses to match TVDB episode names/synopsis for Bizarre Foods despite the show folder including the correct TVDB match, the episode ordering matching TVDB, and the Advanced > Episode Ordering being set to TVDB (Aired). The episode names it is populating seem to be coming from IMDb?

I have tried the following:

  • Removing all extended attributes/metadata in mp3tag that could be throwing Plex off
  • Going through Fix Match using the TVDB ID query as the search title
  • Doing the “Plex Dance
  • Refreshing Metadata

This series is being incredibly stubborn. Does anyone have any other pointers as to what I can do to make this series match TVDB ordering?

Series: Bizzare Foods -TVDB

Including the TheTVDb ID in the folder name or during fix-match will only provide a “matching hint” for Plex as for what show it is – it won’t set the show to use metadata from TheTVDb or its orders.

The critical part from your list is…

  1. setting the episode order in the show’s advanced options
  2. refreshing metadata

Now… as for why it’s not being picked up correctly – that’s weird.
On a first look the metadata seems to be showing up correctly in Plex, but on staging your configuration, I’m getting the exact same result (Plex listing episode s05e02 with the title of episode s07e02). Let me check…

It’s quite odd. It seems like the series’ webscrape/metadata is just getting confused.

I think this is an issue with data on our end. I’ve reported to our metadata team.

I have the same issue with a different TV show. Episode ordering is set to TVDB (Aired) but it seems to coming from TheMovieDB (or somewhere else).

Did you refresh the metadata at the show level?

Yes. Also changing to TVDB (DVD) adjusts the episode order based on that site’s listing but not TVDB (Aired)

@BigWheel I can confirm something is going screwy in Season 3 of this show for plex’s metadata.

I’m having the same issue with a different show.

Title: “Remote Onsen”
(created on TheTVDB 7 November - and I’ve tried again and again, most recently 24 November)
I’ve entered for the search title “tvdb-456426” and it results No Matches Found.

Has this now been resolved or is it still an issue? I am having the same issue with ‘Rob & Romesh Vs S07E04’ showing as ‘wildlife’ instead of ‘Darts’

For me the solution was the data being wrong on Plex’s end. Upon @BigWheel submitting a report to their metadata team and refreshing my metadata for the show after 48 hours, it was fixed and everything displayed as intended.

If you’re confident you’ve named everything right, checked all the boxes under the hood, and aren’t running into existing embedded metadata issues (throw the files in mp3tag and check to see if there are any conflicts with episode titles, thumbnails, etc.), then you’re probably in the same boat. Hopefully the Plex team sees this and can get it updated on their end.

Yeah it looks like TVDB database got updated yesterday but I don’t know how long until plex refreshes their database

The database is constantly being updated but since there are so many episodes/movies that get updated at sites every day it usually takes 48 hours minimum to go through queue to pick up changes on any given item.

Just wanted to drop a quick note to say thanks a ton for sorting out the metadata issues with my favorite TV shows and cartoons. It’s made a world of difference, and I really appreciate the effort you put into getting it right. Keep up the awesome work!
