I have been using Kodi with the boblight plugin for a long time, my old RPi Model B+ is connected to my LED’s and runs an optimized Boblightd that I forked.
Does Plex not have a similar plugin?
It seems to me that Hyperion requires RasPlex because it is running somewhere outside of Plex itself, is that correct?
I am just trying to figure out if I should get an RPi 3 and connect my LED’s to that and use RasPlex vs. my original plan which was to run Plex Home Theater on my Plex Server machine and have it feed my existing boblightd in the same manner that Kodi did with a plugin.
Just trying to figure out what I need to change to make the switch from Kodi to Plex as seamless as possible.
There are a number of posts regarding Hyperion in this section, Rasplex supports Hyperion and is enabled through System Settings. Read some of the other posts for how to set this up.
My question is not about how to set it up, it is more about if it is possible to use Plex+Hyperion without RasPlex, as in a plugin on a different platform.

So why are you asking in the Rasplex section, post in the General section and you might get a better response.
I asked here because I want to use Plex to talk to Hyperion and it seems like the only place where I was likely to find people who have experience with both would have been in this section.
