Does Plex have a traditional EPG? Manual recordings?

Trying out Plex Live TV.

Does it have a traditional EPG where you can browse by channel? Right now it looks like it just wants to show you what shows are on, what shows are on later.

Also, can you do a manual recording, eg record channel X from 1pm to 6pm? I can only find a way to record a specific show.

Thanks.

At this time there is no “traditional EPG” that you might see from your typical provider you can always use a service like zap2it or any other EPG listing online to find the grid style EPG. I hope they add this and I have seen that as a feature request so we will see.

At this time you also cant set manual recordings i.e. every wed at 6 pm for 22 minutes you can only chose to record a show or movie based on how its displayed in the EPG and based on new or repeat airings.

Live TV is fairly new and additional features continue to roll out so I would expect Plex to be competitive and get these basic types of functions added to their product.

I can see why they would want to implement it that way to make it easier and not have to think about channels or setting times at all. Just go see what you want, click record, etc, and not worry about finding the show on a channel.

Would like to hear from them to see if this is something they plan, though.

Having no way to set up manual recordings would be fine **IF **all shows were available in the guide. Unfortunately, they’re not.

I just tried to set up my DVR to record the Seahawks game on December 31. I have confirmed through multiple sources that it’s being broadcast on my local FOX affiliate. The game does not appear in the program guide. I forced a reload to insure that guide data is up to date. Still no game. I assume this is a glitch in the guide data provider’s (Gracenote?) database.

A basic usability requirement for a DVR is the ability to schedule a recording of anything that’s being broadcast. If Plex cannot provide a guide that contains all program material on the stations it’s receiving then it must provide a way to manually set up recordings for events not in the guide. Otherwise, the only way to record things not found in the guide is to manually start and stop recording in real time when the event starts and stops.

@dshanks01: I’m having the same problem with the re-scheduled Ravens/Bengals game. The Plex EPG lists a different game at the same time/date/channel as the game I want to watch. I reported my problem at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeUaYIb0YOXtKyMHhTrEGc11gJO_bQFqp_S3KANAf95wEhbMQ/viewform
Hope they get it fixed by Sunday.

I wonder if there is any way for Plex users to “choose” which EPG service they want to use (OnConnect versus eyeQ)… Might be helpful if we could manually select the provider that best serves our needs, assuming we actually have multiple options and Plex is just automatically selecting the one it thinks is best for a given zip code.

This seems unlikely to be a solution that Plex will implement. They’re paying for one guide provider and their software knows how to retrieve guide data from that provider. Adding multiple providers would cost more money and increase Plex’s software development cost for a marginal benefit. The problem, after all, is presumably with the provider and not with Plex itself. That said, a way to manually set up recordings would at least be a workaround for the problem.

I just checked, and the game I want to record is now in the guide and set to record. I guess relying on users to complain about missing shows is another way to solve the problem, but it doesn’t seem like a very efficient one.

+1 for a traditional tv guide. or int he very least an option for a custom programmable recording time.

+1 for a traditional EPG. This is a deal breaker for me - almost every other DVR on the market has a traditional EPG and the Plex EPG is primitive by comparison.

+1 for a traditional EPG…the current guide makes it nearly impossible to schedule a recording beyond a few hours into the future. VERY painful! I would love to sign up for a lifetime pass but this is holding me back.

+1 for a traditional EPG also.

Ok, I don’t have DVR yet but would like to know about this setting from support page.

After a google search or two.

I found this resource page

Yet another +1 for a traditional epg.
