LiveTV without need for EPG (XMLTV)

Hello,

I’m new to Plex. My country (Czech rep.) is moving to DVB-T2 and I was hoping Plex is a perfect service to unify my local streaming sources and the TV without the need to purchase a maintain cumbersome and buggy set-top box.

After paying for the 1 month subscription I realized there is no way to watch the liveTV without a Program Guide… which in my opinion is a non-sense. Why would I need a program guide… I just want to watch my channel!

In my country there is no working XMLTV service several had been shut down, there is one paid service, which isn’t working at the moment.

Watching live TV is the primary purpose for looking into Plex. I don’t need recording of channel content. And I would go for the life time license if that would work. Any change this would be implemented? Or I’m just missing something?

In the current state Plex is not an option for me and I need to cancel my subscription.

Thank you…

In principle the same as this, and therefore a duplicate request:

It’s a pain in the backside to set up but take a look at EPG Collector.

Basically it uses your TV tuner to extract the EPG delivered over-the-air and writes it out into an XMLTV file. I’m assuming that you can then point Plex at the location of this file - although I’ve not actually tried this myself.

@mr_silver Big thanks for the tip… I was thinking why there are no tools to grab this directly from the tuner… great there… I’m on Linux though… I think it could be somehow done with mythtv and extracted from their db, but even here it does not seem to be straight forward…Thanks for the tip

@petr_nalevka_gmail_com Yeah sorry, it’s Windows only.

I did a swift Google search for “dvb epg xmltv linux” and came across https://github.com/hiroshiyui/epgrab which looks promising.

Hope that helps.
