Does Plex server handle character accents correctly ?

Hi,

I’ve have an annoying issue with films that have character accents, for example “Lèon The Professional”.

Anytime a movie has an accent above a character that movie is ALWAYS classed as “Recently Added” … even though it’s been in the library for years and I’ve watched it heaps of times!

Same goes for movies like “Autómata”.

Which is why I think it is the accent messing up Plex.

Thanks!

Which platform are you running Plex server on?
Are your media on the same machine or on a networked share? If so, which type of NAS/server?

Server (1.0.0.2261) is running on OSX, media is on a NAS (Thecus N4200Pro, ext4 filesystem), filesystems mounted via AFP.

listing the directory structure from he NAS itself (ls -al) :

drwxrwxrwx 2 mark smbusers 4096 Mar 31 2015 Autómata (2014)/
drwxrwxrwx 5 mark smbusers 4096 May 1 18:54 Léon The Professional/

Listing the directory structure from the OSX Plex server (ls -al):

drwxrwxrwx 1 marksmith staff 264 31 Mar 2015 Autómata (2014)
drwxrwxrwx 1 marksmith staff 264 1 May 18:54 Léon The Professional

Mount information on OSX :

//mark@N4200PRO%28AFP%29._afpovertcp._tcp.local/XBMC on /Volumes/XBMC (afpfs, nodev, nosuid, mounted by mark smith)

Image attached just shows the Plex recently added screen!

I guess it could be tested by just creating a dummy file of the same name

Sorry, this goes into unknown territory for me. (No Mac guy)
May I move this thread into the Macintosh subforum?
I’m sure there are people around who are much more knowledgeable than me.

Personally I think it’s more a server side “issue” that OSX specific, probably reproducible on any OS … I’ll see iff I can get my Windows laptop going and see how it handles accents.

How do you log bugs with the Plex team ?

I know it is a MAcOS issue. Probably in conjunction with the AFP implementation in your NAS.
Windows hasn’t any problems with special characters.

You report them here. https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201643703

markinnz did you ever find a solution to this issue?

I have the same issue here with my music library. any non-english character triggers an update in Date Added on items. I’m running PMS on OS X, and my NAS is connected over SMB (thought it was AFP also). No luck.
